Alternative to South Quays

    Hi,

I currently drive out of Dublin in the afternoon and was wondering is there any "real" alternative to get out of Dublin from the Pearse Street area without using the South Quays? Specifically the area from Tara Street/Rosie Hackett Bridge/O'Connell Bridge.

There is always the temptation to use an alternative route, but these often add to journey time and not take away from it.

So for any of you out there travelling from the city centre to M4 what route do you take?

I drive from up near the green and the alternative is:

through the Green to Cuffe St/Kevin St

then down to James st and via Kilmainham to either onto the N4 or go via Ballyfermot to Palmerstown/Liffey Valley

Try Westland Row onto Leeson Street towards the Green and Cuffe Street and either stay straight onto Cork Street and head westwards from here or take towards Christchurch and onto the quays at Merchants Quay/Ushers Island.

You could also head via Fitzwilliam Terrace and Adelaide Road and the SCR or via the Grand Canal to access the N4 at Kilmainham; recent memory tells me that it's slow turning on at the St. Johns Road junction so it mightn't be as good.
