Will my car fail NCT

I've a ford mondeo and there was a problem with the lock on the bonnet (happens on a lot of fords I've heard), so I drilled out the lock and now use a flat head screwdriver to open the bonnet. I'm just wondering will that be OK to go through the NCT? I've heard mixed answers just need some clarification, thanks.

    It will fail.

This has to be as it was from factory.

Be grand. Just explain it to the tester.

Check that the bonnet and boot lid catches are operating properly. In the case of front opening bonnets, ensure that the safety
catch is fitted and operating properly.
Bonnet or boot catches defective or bonnet
    safety catch missing or defective

From the NCT manual ^. Seems only the catch needs to operate properly, it doesn't mention the cable from the lever or the lever itself.

How would the NCT tester open the bonnet?
Edit: I know every car has a different way but I would think the tester would know each car,

I use a flat head screw driver takes 2 seconds it does look bad handing it in, I might fix it before the NCT just incase :/

    Actually I might be wrong:confused:

Seems like they might accept it (well they did according to this post):

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=78010128&postcount=9

But then another poster had a fail:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=78014028&postcount=10

I would fix it anyway. You might, however, get away with it. Call into any NCT centre and ask the tester what is their view on the issue.

I would fail it anyway as You cannot open it without a screwdriver. Not operating correctly if you ask me.

I don't think some of you guys understand how a Mondeo bonnet opens. You swivel the Ford badge in the grille, put the key (or screwdriver into the keyhole behind and turn one way for the initial release, and the other way for the safety catch. There are no cables or levers.

I know it works with a key, a screwdriver is news for me tbh.

There is a lock as far as i remember.

It doesn't pose any risk if you think about it anyway, the car does not become a death trap. Might look a bit odd when you hand a screwdriver along your keys at the NCT centre.

Absolutely. The NCT is primarily to test for the cars safety. Ford locks were always crap since they brought out that roundy key. I had to disable a neighbours steering lock on his Focus a while back as the key simply wouldn't turn in the ignition. It works fine in all the other locks.

I think it depends on the tester and time of day. I had a failure on a boot of my wifes car a few weeks back.
The boot would open using the switch inside the car but the button on the boot itself was broken. When the button was pressed it would not do anything. It was a safety failure. Had to replace the lock.
However, on the positive side, it is only a visual failure so it's probably worth a gamble.
