Putting brakes on a bale trailer

My Trailer can carry 8 bales even 9 with another stacked ontop. The issue is that my journey covers a couple of steep down hills and I would like to have braking on the trailer as well. My bale trailer is made using wheels from a lorry which have the brake drums which as far as I know were operated by an air piston. I wonder would it be possible to use a hydraulic ram to operate the brakes (similar to those on my slurry tanker). The tractor is pipped for brakes. My question, is running the brakes as simple as connecting a ram to the brake linkage????

Is your trailer plated for how much weight it can carry and was the drawbar welded on by a qualified welder? If not, I wouldn't bother retrofitting brakes as it wouldn't be aloud on tge road anyway.

Yeah pretty much, so long as they aren't seized up! You can get units through spaldings dealers that have the ram a linkage and spring all set up that you just bolt to the lever and weld to the axle
