I'm using Blacknight to self host my previously wordpress.com blog. Or rather, I would be if I could get it working. The main page will work but none of the links within it will connect, I keep getting 403 errors. I've been advised to change the permalinks, but that sends my whole site into a 403 error. I've renamed the htaccess file, but that only brings me back my main page again. Any ideas on what I can do to fix it? It shouldn't be this hard!

To be honest it's one of those problems that you really need someone to look under the hood - there could be a variety of areas that problems can be located.

But everyone says that self-hosted Wordpress is really easy, you can set it up in 5 minutes, and if you get stuck there are heaps of help-videos on youtube.

403 errors usually means file permissions aren't set correctly. Blacknight should be able to provide support on this.

It is really easy, and you can get set up in 5 minutes. That doesn't mean problems can't arise, especially when moving a pre-existing site, rather than a fresh install

Did you follow the Application Vault guide? Really quick and easy to install Wordpress with it...

it's hard to tell what the problem is with no visibility on the site or htaccess file. generally speaking, the 403 error concerns permissions. in your case, i suspect (again no visibility on what's going on) the problem is with rewrites. if that's the case, probably worth checking one of the solutions proposed (i've found http:// coolestguidesontheplanet.com/ 403-forbidden-error-wordpress-htaccess/ ). if that doesn't work or you've already tried it, i would certainly contact the support service. they should definitely be able to help on this one
