I've a cow that has had a big drop in milk yield in last 2 days. She's still eating her ration and seems reasonably healthy but is last of herd out of the field and slow walking to parlour.(not lame thou)
Took her temperature this evening and it came in very high at 104.
Gave her an injection and will probably call vet in morning if temp hasn't dropped but in mean time anyone hazard a guess as to cause of illness.

Had a couple of cows have the exact same thing happen to this year, at first thought it was ibr but all tests came back negative and a vaccanation program is in place, blooded 15 cows monday and am awaiting results, if you have some <mod snip> around that should get your cow back right after a couple of days little else the vet will do for her unless you want to get her blooded and tested

C4d78, all responses here will only be speculative as we cannot personally examine the cow and a plethora of different diagnoses could begin with a high temperature. The vet should be your first port of call in cases like this if she's not right by morning.

As long as no silly/conflicting advice is given , carry on :)

Thanks all. Will get vet first thing in morning unless marked improvement.

How much more will the vet cost to get this evening, and what's the cow worth even as a cull.
I'd be getting vet temp very high and probably needing fluids, how do the eyes look
    Is she long calved

Get vet straight away. If shes worse in the morning getting treatment started now instead of the morning it might make all the differnce.

No point in us guessing at what it is.

Cow much better today. Temp back to normal and about 8 or 9 litres of milk this morning. Drugs obv worked and never got vet as she appeared so bright this morning.
Would usually only get vet here with same symptoms if cow goes off her food. As she was still eating last night I made the decision to treat myself and see if that worked first. So far so good.
