AGM Batteries

I remember there was a thread here not so long ago about AGM batteries but couldn't find it. What brand/spec of AGM batteries are you guys using in BMW E6x models?

I priced an OEM 90Ah one from the dealer up north and they want £200+ VAT which includes a discount, but they can't send it by courier.

I see batteriesdirect.ie have a Banner Running Bull 59201 (12V 92AH) for €240 and I also spotted this in Halfords today for €220:

BMW seem to be quite specific about it being a 90Ah rating for the E65 7 series, should the slightly higher amperages be okay? I can't see how they wouldn't be.

I can code the battery myself so no issue there.

    Thanks!

Axa card will get 10% knocked off that in Halfords. 90ah is a minimum, I'd imagine.

Banner or Varta would be the only ones id use in a 7er nothing else

check and see what the CCA (cold crank amps) are on it . they need to match , its one of the most important things to match. whats the car ?

    year + engine ?

    It's a 2005 740Li, 4.0L.

They introduced the E65 with lead acid batteries in 2002, but changed to AGM about 6 months after.

The CCA of the original battery still in the car is 900. The car has pretty much every electrical option so i'm thinking about a 110Ah AGM, even though the original is 90Ah.

would have thought it should have been 110ah . my old 645ci had a 110ah lead acid battery but i do know for agm it doesnt need to be as high , i was recommended a 90ah agm as replacement for my 110ah lead acid battery by BMW main dealer

This is true, the original lead acid batteries were all 110Ah but were replaced with 90Ah in AGM.

Looks like the Banners in 92Ah don't have enough CCA, so it's gonna have to be the 110Ah. Found it in the UK for £176 which isn't a bad deal at all.

Halfords trade card will knock a huge chunk off that price

Aye was thinking that but the CCA isn't to spec it seems.

should mention , make sure its the same physical size so it will fit and be able to clamp down using the provided brackets . for some reason my bmw gave grief until i clamped the battery down 100%

I'd highly recommend Banner Running Bull.

You'll get a better price from Europower. They are very good guys. They tested my old battery, then I installed the new battery at their premises, then they tested the new battery to make sure all was OK, and that the alternator was charging correctly.

Does your car's ECU need be 'told' it has a new battery? I think the E60s etc do.

That's good to hear, i'll probably order one online.

The new battery does need to be coded yes, can do it myself.
