Two fancies for me today. Posh frock ran out an impressive winner last time out, 23L back to 3rd horse and first career win. Only 5 so open to progress and Carberry booked, 10/1 ew looks big 520 bellewstown. Oberon in the following race is a newcomer by presenting and has been backed from 50's with the very decent Crawford booked to ride. Still a bit of ew 20's about. Will have to beat the odds on shot but I'm going to take a chance he's been showing something to justify the support. Lobbing both in an ew double too.

I really fancy DEFINITELY GALD in the 3:15. Got some at double figures last night. The shorter trip will help and he ran great for most of the race as a 100/1 last time out.

I also like FRENCH TIES in the 3:45. Again, ran well LTO in a decent race.

Just home from Btown, having a poor day until the charity race, seen a racehorse disguised as a half-bred travelled from cork according to card, raced to bookies and could not believe it was 10/1...won by a furlong :D great day at the races

Don't know if the tactics exaggerated the superiority, but it's hard to look beyond this fella for the Arc. He just bossed the field like he was in a different class.

If anything I would have said the tactics were against him. He made his own running but he didnt steal it from an ordinary pace, he went a good gallop the whole way around you can tell by how spaced out the field is even early on. Had the rest struggling from a really long way out. Looks an outstanding prospect with a pedigree to match.

You would have to think if he was covered up it would suit him better.

Some performance, to win in a hack with nothing for company takes a lot of doing for a top top horse.

I don't remember seeing many jockeys of Soumillions calibre have such a fight to try stop a horse that won any derby.

In actual terms he will be 3 months older than STS when he won his Arc and STS put on a seriously amount of muscle after his Arc, frightening thought if he is a chip off the excellent old block.

Hope he goes and shows Australia up for the over rated thing he is.

He couldn't really have been any more impressive, so I reckon it suited the horse to wait in front and then blast off from the turn.

Soumillon is a very crafty jockey and stated that he went across the track looking for better ground which makes sense when you look at the faded colour of the grass where Sea The Moon raced on his own.

The time was 2 seconds slower than last years German Derby which was run on similar good ground and won by a non entity, so if he could beat the rest by 11l then they must have run 4 seconds slower than last year's winner.

It would be be interesting to see what the German time experts make of his performance.

The race reminds me of Bahri's 6l win over Ridgewood Pearl.
According to the form and the odds Bahri (5/2) was no match for the 3 year old filly Ridgewood Pearl (8/13 favourite), again he ran with a pacemaker. Bahri was drawn widest of all the six runners. After the stalls opened Willie Carson had taken him to the outside rail to ride him under the trees as this is where the better ground was to be found due to the trees protecting the ground from both the watering and the rainfall. The other 5 runners, including his pacemaker, took the shorter and more conventional route against the inside rail on the ground that was described officially as Good to Soft, Soft in places. By the time they had come to the turn and Willie Carson had switched him back to the inside rail he had an advantage of 3 lengths, he then went onto win by six lengths with Ridgewood Pearl in second.

First of all that has to be one of the worst commentaries I have ever heard, for a race like that to have that guy commentating is shocking, didn't seem to know anything even Derek Thomson dare I say it would have been better! And heeeeeerrrrrreeeeesssss the favourite :)

Great performance by horse and jockey, Soumillion gave it a cracking ride. It certainly adds another bit of spice to what looks like being a really top class Arc
