Hi When I'm stopped at lights etc the car (toyota avensis 2007 1.6 petrol) drops revs,
it's normally around 1000 I get a rumble and it drops 100-200 revs then goes back to normal
Iv had it about a month, I'm not sure if its just my head or not but when I first got it it seemed more powerful to the touch of the accelerator but now it seems to need my foot on it a bit more to get that powerful feeling if that makes any sense at all (kind of a lagging now)
Can anyone shed some light on this issue at all thanks

It is happening constantly (ie is the rev counter bouncing up and down) or is it only happening occasionally?

Mainly happens yes, if I'm stalled long enough waiting for a light to change it will happen without fail
It will only happen the once and go back to normal until I stop again

We have same model and year avensis.

When it starts from cold it revs high. Noticely louder revs. Once you push in the clutch it drops a bit before climbing as normal once you engage gears and move.

Once the engine is at temperature and you are idle, the revs will climb and fall a few hundred revs when the aircon (manual) is on. I had a Mondeo that did the same. If aircon is off, and engine is up to temperature, the revs should'nt move much.

All 1.6 avensis petrols of that model do this.

Finally, it is a heavy bugger and the 1.6 struggles to pull it along unless you give it welly. Ours is a town car and is perfect for that but bring it to the open road and you will see it's limitations.

On the plus side, it is by far the most reliable car we ever had.

I must have a look at that side of things with the aircon as I did have that on at times it could explain it, I was thinking it could have been the spark plugs as checking the history they haven't been changed within the last few services

Maybe check the MAF sensor and replace the air filter.

I have also seem this on my cars when the fan kicks in (I think). Maybe get someone to look it over if it concerns you, but it might be perfectly normal. Id be more concerned if the revs were inconsistant and were constantly bouncing up and down.
