    H All,
Well it finally happen some dozy bloke too busy on mobile or some such crashed into me today.

I was on balgriffin road at the cemetery stationary last in a queue of cars and i heard a screech of tires and looked up to see w white small van racing towards the back of my car. I nipped into 1st and just pulled away to the left but as he turned into oncoming traffic and was about to have a head on crash he jutted left again and hit us..

No one hurt all minor enough damage, He got out and admitted all his fault... Now i took loads of photos and then a video and also got him to admit on camera in conversation that he caused the crash.

Called my insurance and they adivse as i have all the details and a witness to boot that i dont need to go to the police. Just call his insurance broker and report to them, they will sort it from there end.

Any thoughts? should i mention it to the police?

I'd make a report with the Gards as well, just in case.

    Gardai every time

Video or not, admitting liability at the scene is of very little value

No need for the police unless he was was disputing fault, I went to the Garda station after someone rear ended me but admitted liability, they sent me home saying there is no need to file anything as the other party already admitted blame. Getting his insurance company to sort you out quickly is another matter as I found out, demand a hire car if your car is off the road and make sure to specify you want one that is equivalent to your own one.

The guards only need to be informed if there is injury involved.

Unless you wanted to report the driver for causing the accident as he was on the phone in which case you'd have to give a statement and then give evidence in court.

Gardai are of no use after the incident has been cleared. If they are at the scene then they will make notes which might be useful in apportioning blame, but there is little point in contacting them now unless you need to report a crime (say the bloke had fled the scene) or if there were injuries.
