They have lied and put customers away for over a year now regarding their plans for fibre or VDSL. Joke of a service and one I'm glad to have gotten rid of.

Are you saying that Sky are installing Fibre ?
    That would be news.

    Hi Nonoperational,

As you see from the article. Sky have a very small market share of the market.
Therefore I believe that it is not worth their while installing Fibre. They may well pull out, unless they believe they may "piggy back" which may be less expensive than using their wholesaler.

UTV have sold their customer base to VF. Maybe SKY may do the same.

I know that if one posted this article it may be edited.

Well, I for one, don't believe for a minute that Sky are trialling fibre. Its just a cock & bull story from them in a very feeble effort to hold on to their customer base. It would be logical (and typical) for them to jump on the ESB/Voda bandwagon, which will have the best penetrated network in a couple of years. And then, they will, if still around, only succeed based on price.

Will give them the benefit of the doubt about what they are saying about their trialling . But, like you have questions about it. As the two major ISP have been selling Fibre for several months and are achieving very credible speeds with vectoring.

The rest I believe , in that they as I have said "piggy back".

Since June 2013 I was being told by Sky that their Fibre would be launching "soon".

I left them in April for Vodafone 100/20 and haven't looked back since!

    So were we all.

Just wondering if we can get a comment on this forum by SKY. I DOUBT it.

Have sent a link to Sky for their comments. But, doubt That also.

As their market share is so small. Their network has not got the penetration and would not give them a return for their effort.

I believe that if they pulled the plug on the BB and phone, would cause them a big headache. Could be wrong.. They just could do just that.

Why don't they get in bed with esb and Vodafone and start putting more money in to role broadband out quicker

That way they could actually compete with upc

ESB/Vodafone is away done the line. This is another way of putting fibre on the long finger for Sky

Will the speed improve at all, its 1.2 would that bring it up to the Max 24 now when fiber is live or is it completely seperate

Sky do not supply fibre at all. So having FTTC will have no effect on Sky speed.

If Sky contributed an extra 100-200 million to this ftth scheme, is that not better than just simply rebranding Eircoms fttc? sure if you live in a fttc area, you will have to use Vodafone or Eircom, but what's the big problem with that?

Is it about the Sky TV and Broadband bundle for people? I think people who enjoy Sky TV and people who also enjoy fibre broadband are a small minority, usually people interested in fibre broadband would switch to an internet solution like Netflix and umm... others.
