Best insurance company for cars 20 years and over - Not a classic policy

Well lads, In the next few weeks I should be putting my car on the road, everything is in place other than my first pay cheque!

Last round of quotes I had a lot of trouble getting anything never mind a good one, most companies just flat out refuse to insure anything over 20+ years and I've forgotten which ones will actually deal with me. :o

So my question is, does anyone (under 25) have experience with a 20+ years daily driver and if so, which company have you used?
As far as money is concerned, it's not really relevant to this thread. It's gonna be different for everyone so all I'm looking for is a company that will deal with old car outside of a classic policy.

    Bit rambly, sorry.
    Hope you can help! :)

Liberty seem to be a bit less conservative than the other main insurers.

I enquired about it back when I was under 25 and was told a big fat no. I just wanted to insure a mid 70s VW beetle. Nothing fancy.

Even still I believe it's hard to get classic insurance without a daily driver that's modern. I'll get a classic when I get a new daily and some extra space.

i heard first ireland do a classic/older car daily driver policy that may suit you

    Brokers.

Your going to find it tough. Liberty won't insure anything older than 20 years old. Did you try Campions?

Not sure if I tried Liberty last time but I have heard they're being pretty good lately, tried first Ireland a few months ago but they only as a classic policy while I still had my Almera, they wouldn't quote me because it's Japanese and I'm only 23. Very nice about it though, very apologetic.
Must try them as a daily this time around.
Campions, they either gave me a decent enough quote or refused straight out, can't remember right now. I know they're good for Jao yokes alright!

AFAIK, the smaller companies seem to be better for the older cars.
Not looking forward to the hours of phone calls and being on hold only to be told they don't insure old cars. :(
Only a year and 4 months 'till I can get classic policies though. :pac:

i've pretty much been with quinn/ liberty throughout my driving career and they've insured my on some early 90's stuff. 92 starlet, 92 fiesta etc.

tbh i find ringing is best. those online quote machines are very quick to turn you away.

or not strictly legit, but take out a policy on your parents car for a few weeks, then ring and transfer it to the mazda?

When I initially bought it I tried to transfer right away from my Almera but it was a dead set no. ****ing Chill.ie, no help. I was with Asgard through them but Asgard won't deal with the public. Tried ringing them anyway and the guy that answered had a wobbler. Won't be going with either of them again unless they're about a grand cheaper.

We tried the old swapping business from the Yaris to a 520, didn't work out. You'd be gambling if you took out a policy on the Megane without knowing if you can get insured on the Roadster.

chill bent me over before. at least i think it was chill. wouldn't go near them.

got a reasonable online quote on the glanza with them. phoned them to make sure they understood the magic words "import" and "turbo" and they said they did. paid for the policy and happy days.

3 days later they call me in haste and tell me they are cancelling the policy as and from the time of the call as they don't insure imports  thankfully the car was in the garden but it could have been anywhere.

what are aviva saying? they seem to be taking anyone on this weather.

Aviva quoted me actually, I could tell the girl I was talking to was thinking she was doing me a great deal too.
Can't remember the exact figure but it was well over €3000 anyway.

The best I got last round was €1790, if I could remember who that was I'd call them and make the arrangements...

are you not old enough to take out a classic policy?

i'd try campions anyway. cleveland recommended them to me. they seem really keen for business. they do classic policies and young driver policies so i don't see why they can't combine the two :P

If they're keen for business I'm interested as long as they're not in extortion. :p

Not old enough for classic insurance, I'm only 23 (24 in October) and the car is only 24 so most places won't take.
Dying for myself and the car to hit 25 tbh, I'll tend insure the Mazda and a daily for less than the price of the Mazda right now.
    Not too long. :/

I'd love if they could combine the two policies, it would really be ideal!

Yeah campions come with my full reccomendation
They've got all my classic policies, most of them are 200 p/a or less (even on my truck and 300zx)

AFAIR they were willing to give me a quote for the zed as a daily driver, the only company other than xs direct at the time
