Bike Cameras

Thinking of buying one of these for the bike. I know a lot of people use them for their commute for safety or recording incidents. I was looking to use them to record sportives or particular memorable climbs or club spins. Do people us them a lot on sportives. Would they be too heavy?

Anyone have any recommendations. What about battery life. Is it best to wear it on the handlebars or helmet. I looked at Go-Pro but it looks pretty expensive.

Apologies for all the questions but any advice would be appreciated.
