Watching a stage of the Tour - advice

    Hi all

Just looking for advice about watching a mountain stage of the Tour, if anybody has experience.

I'm planning to watch stage 14, hopefully somewhere on Col d'Izoard. I'll be staying in the area from the day before, and my plan is to drive to somewhere nearer the col and then start to cycle up until a) I find a spot I'm happy with, or b) I collapse (more likely).

What I haven't been able to work out is how near I am likely to be able to get in the car, and how long before the publicity caravan passes though the roads will be closed. Also, another option would be to drive up higher the day before and sleep in the car, but I assume any available parking would be full with campervans long before?

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!
