The Others(On Tour)

We have our Rory, Shane and Padraig thread but what about the others...........................

Gmac and Darren are obvious but what about McGinley, McGrane, Hoey, Maybin, Lawrie, Phelan, Thornton, Higgins and there is Gareth Shaw and Ruadhri McGee who get some tournaments.

Michael Hoey stands out for me as a player who contends a lot but probably doesn't have the consistency to get into the upper echelons of the game, 4 wins on the main tour is nothing to be sniffed along with the big win at the Dunhill Links back in 2011.

Lets discuss who you think is going to push on and who will struggle(continue to struggle)

Maybin looked like a better prospect than Hoey but hasen't improved since coming on tour. Think Phelan can be a top 50 type player but the rest are pretty much journey men.

It surprises me that no one is interested in talking about the other golfers.

Great win by Gmac, is coming into some form.

That win should see Gmac into the Ryde cup even though Stadler capitulated. Having beaten Tiger in the singles one player who is wallowing is Molinari. Pity as he's some striker of a ball.Fancy Larrazabal for another win soon if he cuts out the brainfarts

Is the Ryder Cup points list up to date on the ET website? As it has Gmac still a mile behind the qualifying spots.

yea it's up to date. check out rydercup.com and it says points to july 6th

i think he will qualify no problem, he is has hit a good run of form at the moment. a couple more decent performances at big events will see him through

Probably get in on the world points list but I reckon the European Points list is sewn up.

No other Irish person has a realistic chance of getting in though. Lowry if he won a couple of tournaments or a major but outside of that it's just going to be McDowell and McIlroy.

All the same a good team shaping up.

Nice start from Kevin Phelan today. 3 birdies in his first 6 holes to bring him up to -5 and tied 5th spot.
A good finish this week would go a long way in helping him keep his card

Dunno if the stats for Peter Lawrie are correct for the Scottish open, not a fairway or a green hit over 2 rounds....they don't have any putts recorded so maybe the stats or wrong

Kevin Phelan doing well in Russia this week. Simon Thornton also made the cut, always follow him in events, some story going from playing the Irish Pro-Am circuit to winning on tour last year.

Niall Kearney and Gareth Shaw in contention on the Challenge Tour too this week. Kearney seems to consistently make cuts so a big week shouldn't be too far away, could be the best prospect to progress from that tour, McGee has missed a few cuts after a good start to the year.

Also saw saw Mark Murphy came second in a EuroPro Tour event last week seems like a great character.

Damien now tied for lead with 5 to go, -4 today.

For a man that was contending in the USPGA in 2010 and looked to be going on to better things, what has happened to Nick Watney?
5 M/C in his last 12 events, highest T8 last weekend in the lowly Barracuda but nothing more of note this year. Know he was with Butch but he's surely better than 78 in the rankings...

    Q-School next week.

Good luck to Lawrie, Thornton, Phelan, McGeady, Maybin. Is there any other Irish this year? Hard luck to Kearney only one shot out at Stage 2.

Simon Thornton (Tied 10th at -5) and Peter Lawrie (T17 at -4) are both inside the top 25 after 36 holes.

Improvement there for Lawrie. I'm really rooting for him.

Good enough day today for my man, Lawrie. Shot -3 so on -7 and tied 18th. Thornton also shot -3 so is one shot better, tied 13th. Kevin Phelan had a great -5 today so is on -6 and tied 24th. Quite a dog fight, as usual.

Nice going from those guys. Looks like it's just those Irish in contention for a card at this stage.
Also nice to see Matthew Fitzpatrick going well. Looks a good talent for the future.
A few well known names well down the leaderboard.
    Nick Dougherty 7 over
    Philip price 16 over
    Rys Davies 10 over
    Johan edfors 6 over

Edfors.....gosh, I'd forgotten all about him. Philip Price....sad to see. And as for Nick Dougherty, I thought he had quit trying and was concentrating on the Challenge Tour....and on being a punter on Sky.

Nick gets to cuddle up with Di Doherty every night...That and a bit off Sky work certainly sounds nicer than Challenge Tour and Q-School...Can't blame him for his game going downhill in fairness:)

If they dont qualify do the go on the challenge tour? how did Matthew fitz qualify for the irish open this year and I noticed K phelan in a few european tour events this year also! Are they getting invites or something?

Fitz got 8 invites on the basis he was world no1 amateur/US am champ.

K Phelan had a full European tour card for 2014 which he got at q school last year.

so did K phelan not retain it? (how do you by the way?) so he has to go back to q school?

He's playing Q school as we speak. He's playing his fourth round of the final today (there are 6 rounds altogether) and he is currently in the places to get his card back.

But a long way to go yet

Top 110 on Money List have full card for the next year. 110-145 have limited European Tour and full Challenge Tour along with straight threw to Final Q-School. 145-170 have Challenge Tour card and straight threw to Q-School Stage 2. Anybody above 170 on Money List has to go back to Stage 1 and start all over again.

Hope that helps have a friend who gave it a go a few years back.

    Cheers for that mate.

@Benny, Sky showed highlights of the Q School last year, I think they aired them about a week after it had finished, so watch out for it in the next week or two.

Some posters have already started to give updates on the Euro Thread, you can also follow the leaderboard here http://www.europeantour.com/europeantour/qualifying/season=2014/tournamentid=2014995/leaderboard/index.html

There are 150+ in the field at present (4th round)
That will be cut to 70 (or tied) tonight.
Then for those 70, it's all about getting into the Top 25 (or tied) by the end of the 6th round.

Phelan has lost a few shots in the last few holes, he has dropped down to T35.

Great round by Maybin yesterday a 65 to make the cut from way back. That's class when the pressures on shows why he was on tour in the first place.

Thornton, Phelan, Lawrie still in the running also, McGeady missed the cut. Garrick Porteous good amateur prospect (English though:() was +9 after the first round and made the cut, some going!

Great to see that there is live scoring ala regular tour event.

Phelan +2 after 9, rest of Irish interest -1 so far.

Three still in the mix, which is hopeful. I am hoping that Peter Lawrie's experience on tour will see him home tomorrow.
