Doesn't seem to be a thread for this yet. I've run a lot of the race series over the past couple of years but haven't done this one yet, so not familiar with the route. What's it like? Don't see a trace in the race profile thread.

I think this was last year's route

Yes that was it all right. I ran it last year and will be running it again. My time last year was horrendous compared to most of my other 10k efforts, so I'll be aiming for a massive improvement!

    Looks flatter than I expected!

Got my PB there last year,if you're used to 10k's in the phoenix park you'll find this a lot easier.
Avoid public transport if you can, absolute nightmare trying to get back in to town after the race last year.

It's the same course as last year, which is a much better course that the 2012 one.

Signed up last night for this..along with the rest of the series. Got my PB here last year, enjoyed the course actually and liked running somewhere different. Not sure if I'll be taking any more off the PB this year but looking forward to it.

I've signed up for this and the 10 miler in phoenix park. hope to do better than my last 10km, which was the great Ireland run. Had a nightmare of an afternoon :(

Me too. Signed up for the full race series + Dublin marathon, but missed the 5 mile with calf pain.

Presume from the race website that Pavilions shopping centre car park is big enough to cater for the big numbers taking part?

That's a tough route. Shop around for a flat 10K, and you'll get that sub 50 mins.

I know but 57 minutes :( i'm doing this on sunday & hoping it'll be a bit easier, followed by the 10 miler in the race series, then I have the great north run in September

yes, its quite a big car park. There were no problems finding parking last year. There is a charge for parking though.

Just a reminder that number swaps are not permitted on this forum.

Most people park free of charge in the several retail parks on your way into Swords from Dublin. It's about 1/2 mile from the start/finish line.

I registered for this at the last moment (6th of July). Still haven't received my number. Has everyone else received theres? Will probably arrive today or tomorrow but if not I may need to contact someone!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,595 ✭✭✭✭Murph_D

Well I got my numbers for the whole series all together as usual - but I'd registered well before the first event. I'd be confident it will arrive during the week.

Parking in the pavilions is free from first 2 hours, then €1 per hour there after.

Added incentive to get back to the car after warm-up / down and the race...:o

Guys, NO NUMBER SWAPS! I've had to delete a few posts now, warnings will be handed out next.

Route looks flat, small climb @ 9km. Wishing everyone running it all the best, hoping for a pb myself, sub 36 and I'll be over the moon.

Did this last year and it was quite humid on the day. Hope its cooler this year. Nice course on a some country roads after turning off the main dual carriage way. I entered at the last minute due to an Achilles / plantar annoyance that wont clear up. I'm too afraid to enter the whole race series at once incase I jinx myself!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 251 ✭✭Joleigh

Also parked in Pavilions. Plenty of parking and got back to the car before the 2 hours were up.

Hi thinking of going to this. my number is <snip> if anyone is interested in getting together to do a jog.

Mod: don't post your phone number. Ask for a PM if you want anyone to get in contact.

Good luck to all runners tomorrow. Looking forward to reading some race reports.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,705 ✭✭✭ciaran76

I'm doing this today. It will be my 2nd time taken part in an official race.
I did the Phoenix Park Park Run 10km back in April in 60 mins so hoping to beat 60 mins on this 10km.

I could barely complete 5km in January but thanks to many boards.ie logs and advice I stuck with it and am now training for the half marathon in Sept.

In my case I've slowly seen the progress happen but its worth it.

Finished in 54.23 very happy but thinking back I could have pushed myself more the last 1km as I missed the 9km sign and made a bad assumption of the last km.

The course was a bit more lumpy then I was expecting. Thanks to the fire brigade for the spray!! 10 Miler next.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,601 ✭✭✭Wubble Wubble

45:44, better than last year but a long way off my PB. More or less what I expected beforehand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 257 ✭✭colin32

Not as flat as people were making out. Wish the water stops had been bottles rather than cups & thanks to the fire service for the soaking. Was needed.

Have to say though why do people start in places when they're just going to hold others up. Now I'm not the quickest but I was passing people who were walking & hadn't even got out of Main Street.

Also the guy at the gate of where you collected the goody bag, refusing 1 runner entry because his number had come off. Guy was dripping in sweat & the hitler on the gate saying sorry it's only for runners 😳

Finished in 53.47, not what I wanted but I got round. 10 miler next for me

How do you know his number came off? It's more likely he never had one...

Ah here your as bad as the guy on the gate. Or you could be the guy in the gate

Would it have hurt him to just let him through, if he wasn't a runner in the race fair enough, but the goody bag is hardly worth going through the effort to try & con one

There are loads bandit runners in the race series and marathon every year. If you don't take the policy of refusing them at the end of the race (or in the case of the marathon; dragging them off the course before the finish) where would it stop? People would just be running the races for free.
Also remember that there is someone behind who might not get a race t-shirt/goody bag if the bandit runner is allowed to claim one.

I wasn't that steward but he/she was dead right.

A guy in my group had no number, forget it, tried to find someone in authority to inform them and hopefully get a replacement didn't find anyone so ran anyway, he has paid to run the entire race series, my faith in humanity leads me to believe that some will run the race without paying, but to collect the bounty at the finish I can't imagine there are that many **** out there.

edit - don't think it was this guy, so clearly others forgot their number, or maybe it did fall off

Very happy to be finally sub-50 for this distance with a run of 49:02 this morning. The water spray was very much appreciated!! Not to mention the nice cloudy weather :-)

I think they overdid it with the water stations - for a 10K the very most anyone would need would be one stop at 4miles or so.

Didn't get the time I wanted but did get a shiny new PB so I'm happy.

Loved the hoses (civil defence, was it?) and as ever, the Scouts were great.
