Job offer in Canada

I've just been offered a position in Canada, as a heavy equipment operator, on a wage of $ 2,400 per week.

The problem is the missus has just been offered a place in college starting in September, which is a dream come true for her.

The company I will be working for will fly me out for 6 weeks, and home for 2 weeks, with all travel and accomodation paid.

We've 3 kids, aged 9, 4, and 2, so my question is should I accept the job? The money is 3 times my wage here at home, so I feel it's a chance I've got to take.

    Any advice would be welcome.

go because when you run into hard times the savings will come in handy any penny you make here will be taken from you. the thieves in government will take it all
that is serious money at least try it for 3 months

There's a few different things you need to take into account here:

What part of Canada will you be working in? If it's say Toronto the flights will be very manageable but if it's Vancouver you're looking at about 12 hours travelling time to get home which could take it's strain if you're doing it every 6 weeks.

Will you have someone here to look after the children while your wife goes to college?

How long are you willing to keep doing the long distance thing being away from your family?

If you try it for a few months and it's not for you, will you struggle getting work once you get home?

It sounds like an amazing opportunity but just be sure that you will both be able to manage the logistics of it, especially with 3 young children.

Best of luck with the decision! Let us know how you get on :)

sounds like one of you will have to sacrifice... and considering you will be the one with the income and three children to support your wife may have to put this in writing and send it to the college asking to defer her place for the year and hopefully she could start next sept. Then you would have a year to figure it out and save.

    Its an option .... ?

Op where do you live. Could you afford a childminder while herself is in college.
I would hate to think she couldn't go and then blame you for her not getting to go to college after getting a place

Thanks for the replies guys, we've talked it over and I'm gonna go for it.
We both work full time at the minute, so when my wife starts college I can support us both, and still be able to save quite a large amount per month.
We have a great childminder who has been looking after our kids since the eldest was born, and both sets of grand parents are close by, along with other family members who are behind us all the way.

I feel it's a chance I've gotta take, if I can stick it for a year or two it will really set us up financially going forward.
