Hey, Myself and 5 of my pals are traveling to Thailand next Wednesday for 3 weeks (Seriously cant wait). I'm wondering how much spending money i'll need to get by and have a blast of a time.

Heading to Bangkok first before making our way to Koh Samui Koh Phangnan (full moon) Phi Phi and Phuket.

All accommodation has been paid for through Cassidy travel, trip cost 1700 for flights, 2 internal flights and accommodation.

So basically whatever money I bring will be for food, booze, and excursions etc. I was thinking of budgeting at 1500euro which is 66000 baht for the 3 weeks.

I've traveled a good bit (America, Interailing) but I've never been to SE Asia. I know Thailand is ridiculously cheap and the fact all my accom and internal flights are paid for will mean I wont need a huge amount going right?

    Any advice is much appriciated.

    Cheers, Mark

1700 That's a great price. Your spending money will be all relative to what you wana spent. You could get by on 10 quid a day if you wanted.

    A local beer is between 60 - 80 baht
    A bucket is between 200 - 300 baht
    A hour massage is 200 - 300 baht
Taxi and tuk tuk split between a group of lads will be cheap 200 - 300 between ye for a 20 min spin.
A beach lounger is 100 baht
A local curry is bout 150 to 200 baht, you can get way cheaper on the street. Up to you.

My advice you shouldn't really be paying more than a fiver for a local meal excluding drinks. And if you wana drink Guinness and Carlsberg expect to get ripped off. Singha beer is quality.

You main expense will be excursions, trekking, boat trips, cooking classes, ping pong shows ;), ziplining, diving etc...

    Shop around for these.
    Enjoy yourself and be safe!

I was there last week :(

    Sounds like you're sorted!

The Skytrain in Bangkok is pretty cheap, the most expensive fare I paid was 45 Baht (E1!) one-way. If you're getting a taxi from the airport make sure they charge by the meter. They are legally supposed to but try every time, without fail, to charge you around 500 Baht for the trip. It should cost around 300.

Book your ferry from Samui to Koh Phanghan with Lomprayah. I recommend upgrading while on the boat to the VIP lounge. It's 250 Baht extra but there are big comfy seats and air-con.
Take advantage of their free transport from your hotel to the ferry and back...do not pay the fee they try to charge you at the return office!! Let them know (insistingly) that you have arranged transport as part of the ticket. Give them a call the day before travelling to arrange the transport.

In Phi Phi I recommend that your group hire a long-tail boat for 3 hours. This will set you back 1500 Baht (between you) and you can go snorkelling around Phi Phi Ley, Monkey Bay etc. Usually the boat has all the gear you need for snorkelling. If you go with a tour company it'll be a hell of a lot more! Plus you can decide where you want to go...be aware that if you want to get in to Maya (The Beach) you have to climb a pretty dodgy looking rope scaffolding.

You can spend as much or as little as you like on food/drink. In my opinion, some of the best food is more often the best...same goes for beer - Singha is a great one!
