Question about the Grant

    Hi guys

Just a quick post that I'm making on behalf of my girlfriend.

4 years ago I was in college as a 24 year old mature student receiving 188 a week Back to Education Allowance and also had my 2,500 per annum fees paid for by the grant. I have been out of the loop so cannot advise my girlfriend but hope you guys can.

She is 23 and She is looking to commence a full time undergraduate course in September of this year. She works 5 days a week at the moment (5 x 6 hour shifts) so 30 hours in total.

If she went down to 3 days a week as she wouldn't be able to work any more due to her course, does she have to sign on and is she able to get the 2 days she's losing paid by BTEA, and is she entitled to the grant for her college fees to be paid. Also, is it SUSI she applies to to get her colllege fees paid?

I should also mention that she lives with me and I earn 29k+ per annum.

    Cheers

    :)

Firstly she would have to be unemployed 234 days to be eligible for BTEA so that is out.

Regarding SUSI that would be assessed on 2013 income so they would probably assess yours and hers together for 2013.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Could she sign on for 2 days job seekers to offset the days in work that she'd lose?

Also we were both unemployed for the majority of 2013

Thanks for replying to me :)

I dont think she would be eligible for BTEA to be honest but I could be wrong. The best thing to do is ring them and ask. They are really good at answering questions.
