I've been asked to host an 18 year old Spanish student for a month in September but have no idea of how much to charge him. He will have his own room with meals included. What would be a fair price to ask?

How do you know he was Spanish? Or a student? He could've been a Pakistani postgraduate if you were that drunk!

It's actually for 3 weeks. He got in touch with my husband, who's PRO for our local rugby club, asking could he play with the club while he's here studying English. Then he asked about the accommodation. He would be paying weekly. Would €100 be fair?

Just make him paint the house, clean the chimney and plant a garden for you. That'll teach him!

He'll have his own room, 3 meals a day, snacks. A lift to & from training, matches etc. He can make his own lunch to bring to the college.

After tax you will have nothing out of it, €200.

Ask the college what the going rate is.

There'll be two: one with food, one without - where he provides and cooks for himself, just needs a cupboard to keep his food in. Lots of Erasmus students around, you should be able to find out fairly easily what to charge.

Lifts to and from training is extra and it's up to yourselves whether to charge extra or not, or to make him responsible for finding a few people who'd give lifts. Or use a bike.

Don't you know? Aren't you registered? Isn't there a guide for this?

Don't you need to be veted? Or is this the typical Irish shtick? We'll just wing it.

I mean for all we know you could be some psyco and sell this poor 18 year olds organs to the highest bidder.

If you are paying for his meals is €100 enough?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Personally, I'd be looking at between €150 - €200.

My parents hosted a Spanish student for the summer a few years back. She was 17 and I ended up riding her when I was 15 and got caught :pac:

She had to go to a different host for the last week because my mum wouldn't let her stay

I did too, about 15 years ago, through an agency. This one is different (I hope). He plays rugby with a Spanish club and we've checked that out.
