Bridging question with UPC

    Hey guys,

Long time 'let's google something and see what's on the Boards'-er, first time poster.

Anyways, to cut to the chase, my parents have the crap UPC call fiberpower, and we've always had issues with it no matter how many times we've called and complained.

We're on the 100mg bundle, with that 'awesome' Technicolor modem! Oh the joys!

I've been able to turn it into Bridge mode, and have since had small success connection our old Cisco EPC2425 as it has a slightly better WiFi range, but it's seems to have reduced our broadband down to 50mg.

I acquired a Netgear N150 DGN1000 router, and managed to Conner to that briefly with the 100mg broadband were on with the same range as the Cisco.

I'm just trying to understand why it suddenly drops all signal to the routers. All I've done for preparation is reset all modems by pressing and holding the reset button for 30 seconds.

Do I have to enter in any details into the modems themselves? And yes, the Technicolor stays in Bridge mode.

Both routers you mention are actually modem/routers (doscis & ADSL2). Get a 'true' router with an ethernet wan port and it should work out of the box.

Is there any settings I would have to change within the routers, or an I pissing against ye wind??

Routers are getting cheaper all the time, save yourself heartache and get a new or secondhand router. My 2c's :)

Unless the routers you have are switchable to 'router mode' then there is no way they will work with a bridged TC router.

I concur; you can get those to operate as AP's but not to a bridged router as the Netgears WAN is the phone/RJ11 connection and the CISCO's is the COAX. You might be able to download some custom FW for the Netgear to enable one of the LAN's as a WAN but it's really not worth the hassle as you can get basic routers for very little these days, below is a link to Argos TP Links, there's an N150 one there going for 17 quid that'll do the job for you plug & play. Save yourself the pain!

We'll I've since made an and ancient with the Netgear router.

I disabled DCHP routing (or somethig along those lines) and changed it's IP address to 192.168.0.100 (as the TC router was 192.168.0.1 and so was the Netgear one) and it's holding out the past hour! It usually dropped after 30 minutes so it seems to have worked!

I'll post back tomorrow and let you guys know how it's going!

How many devices are you connecting to the Netgear? I suspect your setup will work fine for only one device wired to the Netgear.

At most I'll have 4 devices connected via wifi, an xbox, a tablet, and maybe 2 phones. No devices will be connected directed to either of the modems.

As of now the wifi signal hasn't dropped, and the signal strength of the Netgear is still stronger than the TC so happy days.
