Only in ireland could this happen

its up there with leaves on the line

    http://www.midwestradio.ie/index.php/news/21333-businesses-and-homes-across-achill-island-without-phone-and-broadband-services-this-morning
A spokesperson for Eircom told Midwest news today that they are aware of the problem.
The issue stems from a problem that the company has been aware of since February.
A number of high trees are causing an interruption to the radio signal which is being transmitted onto the island when they are blowing in a certain direction.
Eircom asked the landowner if the trees could be topped or cut down but the landowner was not agreeable to that course of action.
The company then applied for planning permission to heighten their transmission pole. An appeal has been lodged against that planning application.
Alternative measures were looked into by Eircom to alleviate the problem but the cost would run into hundreds of thousands of euro and this is not commercially viable for them to provide the service to 1,300 users.
Eircom is now waiting on the outcome of the planning application to see if it can proceed with heightening the pole.
However the company cannot say when full service will be restored and this issue can arise again as long as the situation remains the same.

can we complain to Comreg about this?

why complain to comreg, eircom are doing all they can, land owner being awkward and most likely expecting compensation to cut down his trees, eircom tried to put up bigger mast and a complaint is lodged, most likely from someone relying on the microwave link to provide their broadband, typical backward ireland, i dont work or have any connection with eircom but they dont seem to be at fault here

leaves on a train line makes the metal slippery - no traction no go

trees like leylandii block wifi n other stuff if they are tightly packed together

Its not the first case. Theres another link where there was trouble with getting Coillte to allow trees to be removed.

TBH if I was the residents I'd sent a few lads down with a chainsaw at 2AM one morning.

A whole island of 3500 people, the esb are allowded in to cut tress when ever they interfere with esb lines.

i hazard a guess that this is the spot in question.

    That looks like it alright.

Assuming it is, to go higher than that theyd need to build a full steel pylon/mast. Waste to clear one small path for line of sight. That said, from the aerial view it looks like you'd need to trim a good few trees to clear it properly.

the exchange is below the road and the other exchange a huge eircom mast is on a mountain about 3 miles away as the crow files. north west of that location.

bound to be some way of multi hopping it to get around the trees you would think

Would require more equipment at the link point, same planning permission issues. And it would bump latency up for all on that exchange.
