Hi How do find out about courses in CIT or speak to past students who completed this course as I am trying to decide what courses to apply for. LC subjects are biology, French, Geog and Home Ec and core subjects.

Hi! I'm doing applied bioscience in CIT! Just finished 2nd year but fort third year I have a choice of specialising in food and health science or pharmaceutical biotechnology! One thing I will say if you are thinking about doing food and health or nutrition in CIT, they are not recognised courses! That's why I'm choosing pharma biotech in September!
    Hope this helps :)

Hi thank you for your reply. Are the courses not recognised in Ireland or presumably abroad. This is very interesting as I don't understand what is the idea of doing courses that are not recognised? Thank you very much for this information as it is not very obvious at first. Does this mean I would be better off going to UCC or checking the courses are recognised first.

I think it's more that your not a nutritionist or a food scientist after doing the course! I only found this out last yr! I do know friends doing nutrition and they did say that the course is being revised as there were complaints as people, like yourself, went into the course presuming it was recognised!

If I were you I would get in touch with either career guidance in CIT and UCC or department/course supervisors! You'll get the best info off them. You should get email addresses/phone numbers on the websites. I would then weigh up my options..

Also if you can go to the college open days to get a feel for the place. That's a big factor to consider too. Remember you'll be there for 3/4 years, it helps of you like the place! :)

Wow that's shocking! I know colleges are needing income but....... could it perhaps be used as a stepping stone to another similiar course so all is not lost for students completing it?
I will definitely take your advice about finding out the really essential info about courses. Now the million dollar question evveryone wants to know, what course would lead to job opportunities either here or abroad?????????? Thanks for the advice though.

Oh of course it's a stepping stone for another course but I'm sure you'd rather not do 3/4 years and then have to do another few years!? It's a pain, I know!

There is no definete answer to your question! You are doing your exams next year? That means you may not be qualified till 2018/2019? So it's hard to predict that far down the line for sure.. I would say stick in science/technology region as that will be constantly developing as an industry!
But at the end of the day, you should really do what you WANT to do! If you are really passionate about what your doing and work hard you will get the job..

Hi outcast angel, you are right of course, it's not obvious which courses are recognised from the prospectus so how do we know and who do we ask the relevant questions to exactly? Best of luck with your career and thank you for letting me and others here know the score!!

Try email Frances Lynch, the biology department secretary (Frances.Lynch @ cit. ie). She may be able to help with your questions, if not, she will point you in the right direction.
Thank you :D the same to you
