UPC wall socket

After years of shoddy internet service from eircom, I have finally convinced my mother to move to UPC. However, after using the live chat on their website apparently she has elected for the selfservice option, being assured the house is wired for it..

However I had a look, and we do not have a wall outlet anywhere inside the house, only phone sockets(don't think my mother appreciated the difference).

I know the most likely thing is that we will have to get an engineer out to install a socket, but would the socket be outside or anything? If so, presumably we would still need an engineer to properly drill a hole and weatherproof it etc?

The UPC engineers usually charge around €45 to install the socket.

It will be inside usually next to where the landline comes in.

It depends on the house. You may have a coax tap in the attic, near the eircom mdp or elsewhere.

If your estate was built with NTL you'll have a white box on the outside of your/neighbours house that has the tap point. If not it'll be on the eave of the roof (4 little spikes on a metal lump).

If a new cable is needed they'll sort it, they're very good workmen, we feed our neighbors and they were very tidy with the cable runs.

I think this is the case. So then we need an engineer call out?

Yup, if there's no co-ax its a must.

Thanks all. Got home, had a look, and of course, there is nothing in the house for the modem to connect to. I don't see anything in the utility boxes on the side of the house either. How long would it take to get an engineer out?
