    Hi,
I love playing the old arcade games of the 80s that i grew up with and now i have MAME4DROID set up on my minix 8 box and hooked up through my TV and it alll works great, i use a normal joypad controller but i want to upgrade it to something more robust so i cant bate the buttons like i used that back in the good old days so any suggestions would be great, thanks

I know it's complicated but a Namco Arcade stick, for the PS1, it's black with yellow buttons, and a PS to USB adapter will give you an excellent stick and it can be used on a PS or PS2 as well.
Not sure if it will work on your setup though.

MAME4DROID suggests an Android box of some sort, does it support USB or do you need bluetooth controllers ? Will probably limit your choice a bit..

Well since the minix has bluetooth support you could get iCade core for £20 from Amazon:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Arcade-Game-Controller-iPhone-ICADE_CORE/dp/B008BGY2I6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1404388550&sr=8-2&keywords=icade

It's really more for tablets but it has the advantage of being wireless, so why not?

Not sure if it would feel as nice on your laps but its cheap, and easy to upgrade the joystick and buttons if you're picky.

I use mine with the iPad and I love it, the buttons are clicky so are responsive but maybe a much more tiring to use than the mighty Sanwa Arcade buttons which I have yet to try out.

If you're interested in playing some online multiplayer using the Netplay function in iMame4Droid let me know, and we'll see if we can connect our devices for 2 player. Would be fun!

you can only get mame on the iPad if you are jailbroken

The x-arcade should have better buttons and joystick I'd imagine.

You need to be jaikbroken to install mame4ios these days.

You can download the .deb package on the mame4all homepage.

I know I might be particularly picky given the whole FG thing, but over our side of the fence the X arcade has an absolutely horrendous reputation quality wise.

If generic USB sticks work, I'd recommend a Qanba. Solid construction, sanwa stick and buttons and works with 360s and PS3 as well.

I usually just use my ps3 pad with bluetooth but that looks funky

I use the ps3 pad also for games like continental circus, or other driving games with analog controls.

It just feels a lot better.

The icade is awesome for the price, and i find it quite surprising that they come with 8 buttons!

that Qanba looks savage alright. i dunno bout the x arcade being bad quality, a friend of mine has one since 2004 and we have played it alot and it got some button bashing and still works great and so many good reviews, its built like a tank, i might be missing something here though? the icade could be a better cheap option and the Qanba looks great, bit pricey though for me for solo, but you pay for quality i suppose, but i defo wud want double joysticks and buttons for 2 player games, its really for having a few beers and playing with me mates, fighting games etc.

Also another question for anyone is they re any irish retailers that sell these type joypad n button controls. i can only seem to source the x arcade one from the States and i d be paying a pretty penny for shipping and customs

The two closest places I can find are gremlinsolutions in Scotland and arcadeworldUK. I know at least arcade world do x Arcade!

I'm not joking about the quality issues with the x Arcade btw, your friend might have gotten lucky but I've heard some horror stories. Getting one is a bit of a risk, but if it pays off it's cool.

Here's a (pretty accurate) image put together by the FG forum's KO kiki:

Well, as I said, us FG people tend to be really picky about our sticks, we'd be at international tournaments and relying on them with money and, more importantly, honour on the line :)

You'll probably get lucky with an X Arcade if it's just something to mess about with every now and then. Sure 2 Qanbas would be in the region of E400.
