Hi folks, hopefully i've posted this in the right place.

Basically I am looking for a hotel for a weekend away in August that offers the option of hiring a row boat for a lake or something similar, it's something i've wanted to do for a while now but I am having trouble getting solid leads on my google searches.

    Any suggestions are welcome!

    Thanks in advance

    Aaron.

I was in Lough Rynn a few weeks ago, I'm fairly sure there was the possibility of hiring a boat there. It's gorgeous and do try the restaurant, food was fantastic.

Thanks so much for your reply, I appreciate it!

I'll have to book things separately it seems. I was being lazy and hoping someone knew a place that offered it as part of a stay or as a package on the grounds itself.

    Thank again!

Just seeing this now, I will most certainly look in to it, thank you very much!

The lakeside hotel, in Killaloe-Ballina is a nice spot overlooking Lough Derg. You can go on a cruise with other people on the Spirit of Killaloe or hire your own boat in the town and head off yourself. No need to book either of these ahead, the Spirit leaves a few times a day, theres always a notice board at the dock in town when the next tour leaves. Similarly, if you want to hire a boat ( with a motor) there's a guy 'between the waters', you just ring him and he'll come meet you with the lifejackets etc.

Killaloe-Ballina is a pretty spot with lots of lovely restaurants, cafes, boutiques. The hotel is right on the water but also in very easy walking distance of everything in the town. The hotel is right next to the Cherrytree restaurant, http://www.cherrytreerestaurant.ie/index.php which is lovely for a special meal but equally theres Mollys bar, Flanagans, an Italien bistro, takeaways, a gorgeous Italian Deli/Cafe ( Ponte Vecchio) ( lovely for a pizza and beer or glass of wine, or a coffee and slice of cake), loads to do and see.

Wineport Lodge in Westmeath. Lovely spot on Lough Ree, right on the lakeshore.

I agree that Killaloe is a lovely place, and also that the Wineport in Glasson is well worth a visit. But neither venue is, in my opinion, suitable for casual rowing.

Not sure I'd agree about Wineport. It has a jetty and is located in an inlet, sheltered from the long fetch on Lough Ree. I'm sure the OP knows that taking any boat onto the water requires care, but this is one of the safer places I can think of that meets the 'weekend away' requirements.
If you're feeling very adventurous (and if you have an outboard motor) there are plenty of islands on the lake to visit, and the lost city of Rindoon is well worth a look on the Roscommon shore.

Hey folks, sorry for the delay in getting back.

I'd say I looked into 95% of the suggestions here and they were all either fully booked (understandable for a weekend in August) or just out of my price range.

    Thanks for all your suggestions!

I'll have to think a bit further ahead so I can do it next year instead.
