We try to have a few meatless meals a week, anyway today it is veg burgers just your bog standard ones form the supermarket, I am stumped for some interesting toping for them so any good ideas the only one I have come up with so far is to mix horseradish and sourcream together.

Avocado, fried onions, beetroot, pineapple, salsa, pesto, portobello mushroom.

    Not all together obviously :P

Salsa, pickles, jalapeños, guacamole, roasted red peppers, caramelised onions, sundried tomatoes, roasted tomatoes ... the possibilities are endless :)

    (I'm hungry!)

I find veg burgers, the mass market kind a bit heavy homemade ones you can customise yourself so I am trying to add a bit of light fresh flavour.r I am thinking of peach salsa at the moment as I have some ripe peaches limes and chillies at hand.

I made a peach salsa last night t go with enchiladas. It was really nice. I didn;t have any chillies though. I used peaches, tomatoes, spring onion, lime, salt and a bit of fresh mint.

guacamole, bbq sauce, peanut sauce, pickles. Whenever I go to counter, I have to get guacamole and peanut sauce, so good.

Homemade ones are nicer too of course.

I made these recently, they have beetroot in them.....

Are they very sweet with the beetroot in them? I often find American recipes far too sweet for my tastes.

I wouldn't call them sweet no, you should use unpickled beetroot,

You can pretty much make whatever you like into burgers, quinoa and chickpeas are always good, don't even have to mash the chickpeas if you like, just cook up quinoa, chickpeas, add whatever spices/herbs you want, form into a ball, add breadcrumbs/bit of flour to bind, coat the outside in flour to take the stick away. I always find it's the toppings that really make a burger.

But for something more meaty, maybe try the meat substitute ones in the shops, or this recipe someone put in another thread which uses vital wheat gluten...

Thanks. I am not really into meat substitutes or trying to replicate things, the beetroot one sounds interesting though so I might try it.

To be honest my go to when I want something savory and burgerish is this BBC falafel recipe.
