    hi,
I live in NE galway, currently broadband is provided by "line of site" provider, while its ok from browsing, its not great for anything else
(streaming, gaming, remote work, ping times vary from 40-180, upload and download speed are around .5 MB)

how can i check to see what exchanges in my area are available for broadband?

(we don't have a land line, so cant do a line check)
Vodafone have offered to put a line in for free, and if the line is enabled for broadband, then you are tied into a 24 month contract.
(speeds of up to 100MB have been mentioned..... i doubt it will get past 2MB)

so, any advice on where to check to see if the exchanges around me are enabled?
    thanks
    D

    thanks beerwolf.
looking at that website, there are 3 exchanges close to where i live..but none in my village,

do you know how i would find out what exchange services my area?

If you click on the Local Exchanges, and then Exchange area, it should show the coverage of the enabled exchanged to your area, assuming you are covered.

    Not 100% accurate mind you.

Best bet is to check with your closest neighbours.

You can also enter your phone number from the menu that should tell you which exchange you are attached to or click the coverage checkbox on the left

@bealtine, at the moment, i don't have a landline, so cant check my number.
my fathers number shows that the line "supports" 24mb, but i did a speed test at his yesterday, and it came in at about 1MB.
also, he live approx half a mile from me.

i'm pretty sure no one around me has fixed line broadband, ill talk to the neighbors later...

@beerwolf, the local exchange, and the exchange area does seem to cover our parish....

vodafone were due to send out an engineer yesterday between the hours of 9-12, to install a landline, come 14:00, still no word from them. called them to see what the status was, only to be told, "ya, he was supposed to call today, but we will have to reschedule"

i took the day off work to be there, no courtesy call or anything!
in the end, i told them to cancel the order ...

ill hold on to the line of sight broadband for the minute. will go down the landline route, when im sure the speeds are better than what i currently have.
