Engine change before vrt?

    Hi all,
Hope you can help, I've a 73' lotus elan that I imported a couple of years ago from uk (it was a non runner then, and is now, so to date has never been registered here). I've owned it previous to importing it for a few years and it was and still is registered to me on a uk log book so am not fussed too much about vrt.

Now as I understand it when you get the car inspected at the ntcs center they only care about the chassis number, not the engine number, ie. that they match the uk log book.

The reason I ask is that I want to put a modern zetec engine in her and sell the old lotus twin cam engine to pay for some of the conversion. So when she's ready do you think the engine number not matching the current uk log book will give me problems at the ntcs center.

I don't have access to my old uk address anymore so updating the engine number on the uk log book prior to registering here might be difficult.

Thanks for any opinions/help in advance.

They won't give a ****e about the engine number.

With the first car I registered with the NCTS, they didn't bother to correct the engine number that was recorded wrong on the V5C. All they did was just copy over the error from the V5C and ignored the paperwork I filled in. I pointed this out when I discovered the error and they couldn't give a toss correcting things once they've had the money.

In the old days, the Revenue would have sorted out. These days, it's a "you'll have to go to the motor tax office for a changes form and a get a garage to stamp it". Something which I haven't got round to doing 3 years on.

I registered a pickup truck with a different engine number to what it said on the v5. Not only that, but it was also diesel instead of petrol!
    They never said a word.:)
