Nissan Almera Engine 2003 part ID??

    Hi guys,
Below is a link to an image I took of my fathers Nissan almera engine, with the past few months the car has being giving a lot of trouble, but only when my parents go to start it,

When they turn the key the engine jumps and splutters violently and you have to stay in the car to rev it up for about a minute to say it wont cut out. After that they does have to leave it running for about 20 minutes before they can drive anywhere in it, if they don't let it warm up when they go to drive it, the car will jump and loose power when on the road, (eventually that stops).

I don't know too much about cars myself but the old lad reckons that the problem is caused by a little unit that is attached to the corroborator, I googled it for a while and was unable to find out what that part is called. If anyone could tell me what it is I would be grateful.

The damn car has the NCT up at the end of the year,

    Regards
    Conor
