Lads I'm looking at a Massey 675 on DoneDeal. Fully reconditioned looks very fresh c/w loader €9,500 asking price. Im looking for something to do a bit of mowing/topping, shaking out hay, foddering, fertilizer, box work and to pull a trailer from time to time nothing major but i want something that will stand up to a bit of work. what do ye think, or any experience of these? Thanks in advance.

I think all those 600 series were rust buckets, same as the early 80 series fiats. I'd steer clear.

I've heard that, this one looks like it had a decent respray, was it just the cabs were brutal for rust, or the whole machine?

Chances are there's as much filler as steel in the cab... start falling apart then after a while.

It was just the cab that was bad on them. The rest of it was a decent enough machine

Ha ha yea wouldn't be ideal when all that starts rattling out! Ah maybe it's one to stay away from

Has the cab been galvanized? There were Masseys 'tillage' series to the 2/300 series iirc.

I'm not sure it doesn't mention it? From the pictures it looks a decent one can't know for sure until I view it, it's on donedeal for sale in Meath don't know how to post it up here.

Have you ever had one Reggie? Or worked with one? I've never been in one before? Only ever worked with a 165 and a 3080 before!

Had a 2 wd 675 here for 10 years. Found it was a great machine. Mechanically sound & reliable. Lovely sweet engine, around 68 hp I believe and economical. Well able to handle a round bale and all the tasks you outlined above. Very comfortable cab compared to other tractors of that vintage.

Rust on the cab is the achilles heel of the 600 series as well documented. Most common on the doors and on the panels below the windscreen. They really need to be kept in out of the rain as much as possible.

Other area of weakness is the hydrostatic steering system - watch out for play in this area esp if tractor has a loader. They are also relatively heavy so go for one with wide tyres all around if possible.

Looking at that machine on DD, it looks in good condition, and seems well minded, but impossible to say without seeing it on the ground. (nice tidy place also, good sign) At €9.5k, it is overpriced by circa €2k in my opinion.

TBH, I wouldn't bother going for for a 2wd one with a loader as not really good enough to handle a round bale front & rear. How about this one also on DD, low hours and looks tidy http://www.donedeal.ie/tractors-for-sale/massey-675/6800849

Solid advice Jimmy thanks! Do you reckon the loader is pretty much worthless on this machine? Also 68hp doesn't sound like much? Sorry now only back farming after 8 years so I'm asking lots of questions!

Just after noticing the sticker on the bonnet :-) that tractor wasn't too far away from here at one stage. Now I know for sure it's been resprayed to within an inch of it's life!! Run away!

Would be a foolish man to ignore that advice!

68 hp is loads for what you have outlined.

Regarding the loader, you could pick up something like that with the brackets etc for €1000 to €1500 on DD. Bucket worth circa €500, spike €300 perhaps. Not clear from the ad if they are included for €9.5k.

Loader is certainly not worthless and a handy implement to have. However I think it would be hard on front axle, etc to be transporting round bales of silage on the front, although I would be sure it would lift one. Other issue with loaders is that it makes the tractor more awkward around a yard, but I suppose you could take it off if you wanted.

Jez Muckit you must have great eyesight. I can't read that sticker at all. Now I'm trying to figure out who it is.
