Facebook - blocking someone

I was wondering in Facebook about blocking someone - I know you can block yourself seeing a user/posts from them, etc, if they are/aren't your friend, but is it possible to block someone from seeing you if you don't want them to see your profile/view your activity on Facebook - i.e. if you search for them/they have posts on mutual friends' pages, etc?

Because I defriended someone a while ago, and when I defriended them, initially they showed up as "facebook user" on the message thread between us; but I've noticed recently on a few mutual friends' comments (presumably tagging them) that the comment shows just with that person's name, not hoverable-over and non-clickable. As well, now in the message thread with them, their name is black and non-clickable, but is says their name, and not "facebook user", like before but I just did a Google search for their Facebook while logged out of my account, and they still have a profile.

I thought they had deactivated their account, but have they blocked me?

I don't mean to sound like a total eejit, but it's a bit of a complicated thing that preceeded the Facebook defriending. Thanks.

Curious to know about this as well as one of my friends is now blacked out, and Cabot click on their name anymore.
Wondering if she's deleted her account or unfriended me?
