 any problem with these motors, a friend is looking into a seat altea. when I was looking at golfs I haven't heard any horror stories with the 122ps model only the turbo/compressor version with 160ps/170ps was putting people off with piston slap and that BS. He's looking into the 2007/2008 ones. which I think are the 140ps. so can you guys brief me on the problems and the horsepower in the 2007/2008 years of the 1.4 TSI

You will want a Full service history with the correct oil.
Timing chain issues with the 170s, not sure if that's the same with the smaller engines.

Family member has a 2008 passat since almost new with the 122 engine, no issues at all with it so far.

I have a 122 in a DSG octavia since February, I know it's only a short time but I love it. A complete service history is very important to avoid timing chain issues.
