Short courses with loads of driveable Par 4's

Best feeling in golf, knocking it on a Par 4 in one.
You always look forward to playing those short Par 4's even if some of them can be secret tricky.
Can anyone think of decent courses with a good few drivable Par 4's ?

I seem to remember playing Blarney years ago & I think I remember eagle putting on a few of them.

I think it's hard to meet 'decent' and 'a good few drivable Par 4's'.
Try Highfield for drivable par 4's

Can think of 3 holes* at Waterrock Cork's front 9 that are driveable.

The 4th. Uphill to a blind green.
The 8th. Loads of forgiveness either side to be aggressive.
The 9th. OB left and right but certainly driveable.

    * Based on playing from the white tees.

Check out the ladies tees :-)

Seriously though you will see this more on links courses in my experience, Strandhill has three I've driven(big wind and loads of run) but I'd never recommender trying it in a competition. You are taking on way too much trouble. Great feeling alright.

Theres only 2 that spring to mind that are drivable there,

First off the club house and then the one at the back end of the course, has trees along the left and a small river before the green on the left?

    East Cork - 3, 4, 6, 8 & 10 all reachable, plus 2 of the 3 par 5's can be reached.

Grange has 4 that I have seen driven.

I heard that Leslie Walker in his prime has driven all greens at grange bar 3, 7, 10, 14, 17 .... not sure how true story is

Driving 18 would be a good trick!
He was crazy long alright, but I think those numbers are a bit apocryphal.

there's a great hole in McCreddin that's drivable, maybe the 6th,play Dun Laoghaire,a few of the par 3's there off the back sticks are like par 4's.

Slade valley would have a few 3,4,6,8,12,16. All require big carries over trees etc

Clandeboye Ava has about 6 or 7 that are drivable. However it is as likely that you may lose a ball trying.

    In cork:

    • Blarney: the 14th is about 265 yards from the whites and the 16th is about 295, both reachable but with treacherous trouble around them.
    • Waterrock: As mentioned by Corkblowin, the front 9 has some driveable par 4's.
    • Mahon: You can drive the 10th, 14th and 15th at least and all par 5's are reachable.
    • Cork Golf Club: The 3rd is reachable as is the 6th I think.
    • Mitchelstown: The 15th is reachable but no one in their right mind would take it on.

13th?? I've hit some great drives on that hole and not one were near the green. Landed a few on the 7th tee box on the 9th though!

Castle Barna has 2 but you'd be a brave man to take either on. The 4th is a 7 iron lay up to a very tricky green and the 13th is a long iron into a well protected green. Have taken it on a few times but it takes a great accurate drive with a draw to reach.

1st and the 5th in Castleknock....never managed either myself.

The 1st in Castlebar is extremely drive able, especially if you're a leftie.
The 4th is possible also although it really is a dodgy shot because if it's not perfect you're going to be in alot of trouble.

I think prevailing wind is normally into you on 13, but the last couple of times I've played it, it's been the other way. i got within about 30 yards both times and the two lads i was playing with both reached front edge

I drove the 2nd there once, big wind behind & the dyke was dry.
The 4th, volcano hole ???, always plays as a 2 shotter, 6 iron then wedge for me.
The 13th I remember alright, just hit anything with run & it could get there.

I played with a lad who hit the dogleg par 5 7th with a drive & 9 iron one day.

Some shot to drive the second with the green elevated!
I play the 4th the same only with a 7 iron - left a few near the end of the fairway with anything lower!
Wide and all as the fairway is on the 7th i always manage to go left or right!! Have never split it yet!

There's a story that Darren Clarke reputedly drove the ball through the 9th green in Mullingar and ended up at the clubhouse. Never heard anyone definitively say how true or otherwise that is. I'd never consider it a "Driveable Par 4" :P

Hold up there now, when did all this happen.
    I found this photo online

Ha, when I played it maybe 10 years ago the 2nd tee was elevated up beside the volcano green, the 2nd green was just beyond that water feature, right behind that tree, used to be a dry dyke back in the day.

9th definitely but 13th couldn't be considered as a 'driveable' green for an average club golfer on a regular basis in my opinion.

In any event you didn't drive it if you were short :D
