    .... the little black boxes on the back of Traffic Corps Garda cars? I have seen a few of these now and they appear to be randomly mounted on the boot lid pointing at the traffic. Are these speed cameras, NPR cameras, checking your tax, checking your NCT .... ?

    As far as I know they can detect you're number plate and check it for insurance and tax.

    Jazus you're quick , they've been around since 08 or before and superseded since with better in car stuff,for APNR, check out the emergency services vehicle gallery on boards, and the tech section of GARDA.IE, The boot mounted black box was only an infra red light from memory for the old tech.

    Never seen them before until this week. One off Jct 23 N11 and one on the N11 at Kilpeddar

    Just trawled through the Emergency Vehicles gallery and there they are!

    Just in case you don't follow the Emergency Services vehicle gallery, there are a number of totally plain (no ANPR / aerial /bumper strobes ) 131D Mondeos out there waiting......... :cool: If you look closely you might just see the camera in the rear window and/or the suction strobe in the front window - steady on the gas !! ;)

    We've known that for a long time now :rolleyes:

    They crashed the Volvo S60 on Dame st and it's not been seen since, and they have a blue/silver Subaru Forester I saw just yesterday so... ;)

    I used to be in the traffic industry and as far as I know the boxes were all installed but not turned on as the Gardai didn't pay their bill.. they may well of resolved the issue of course, I've been out of the loop for a long time.
