Hi all, just asking opinions to see if anybody can help with the following queries I have

Q1) In your opinion/experience ....Are most positions for Principals given to deputies who have the local knowledge already and extra applications are just part of the "transparency process" ? So if you apply as an outsider you have a very slim chance of success and you should expect the same if applying (except new locations)?

Q2) Are DP' s selected for vacancies primarily by the guidance of the current principal to the interview panel...

Q3) Is it easy to get a 1 year career break to try an alternative career path while still keeping your CID? How long does it take to get? Can you only get a 1 year break or can this be extended for 2/3 years?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

    1) DP would always have the shoe in for P IF they want it. That's not to say they always get it and I know of plenty of situations whereby the DP applied and didn't get it. However if the DP has done a good job then why wouldn't they be the front runner?
    2) Depends on the school. In some schools the P would be on the panel but in other schools the P doesn't even know when the interviews are being held. I know of schools where the P picked the DP and others where it was totally neutral process
    3) I think you can take a career break once you have your CID and it can be taken for up to 5 years and in 2 blocks only but check out the union websites for more accurate info.

Thanks for your thoughts. I just read the DES circular and it seems to be very strict as in apply in march for sept break...
