Returning to work in Republic after 8 years in North

Hi, I have been working in the North for the last 8 years. Previous to that I worked in the Republic for over 10 years. I have always resided in the Republic.
I am looking for help / answers about a few things that I am unsure about

Should I expect much hassle from the tax man getting back onto the tax system here? Is it just a matter of getting my P45 and the new employer sorting it out? I have submitted the tax credits and cut-off form for my wife and I.

I didn't pay tax in the Republic as all my earnings were in the North. My wife is a PAYE employee in the Republic. I heard different stories about possibly paying back-tax or receiving a tax rebate in the Republic. Is there any truth to either of these?

Would I be entitled to any tax rebate from the North when I move back down South?

    Thanks in advance

As you are resident in ROI you are subject to tax on your world wide income.

However you may be eligible for trans-border workers relief whcih is set out here

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/reliefs/trans-border-workers-relief.html

So basically if your only source of income is the employment income you earn in NI then your ROI tax liability is reduced to nil.

Please note that this relief only applies to employment income and not if you are self employed etc.
