Quick q... Is it possible to build up a NCB while driving on a learner permit/provisional license?

Of course, as long as the policy is in your own name. Some companies even take certain named driving experience into account also under such circumstances.

That's what I thought. Need to speak to my broker then... one year is missing.

Must be complete years as well

Did you change insurance company at any time, most companies only put your years with them on the NCB cert and a percentage of your total discount. So if you were with the same company for say 5 years you would have cert saying 5 years and 50% discount for example but if you changed 3 years ago it could say 3 years and 50% discount.

Depends on the insuring company, some don't consider it towards ncb

Thats not my experience. Any NCB cert I have received has had the total number of years (the percentage isnt actually all that relevant as each company can apply their own bonus based on the number of years).

A lot of insurers state number of 'claim free years on this policy' but allow you the maximum discount on their scale if you brought a bonus with you

First year with one company, then second with another. Both through the same broker. I didn't get a chance to call today, but will do so tomorrow.

Lucky you. Mine say six years after thirteen.

Every year or so one would go missing. That's just the way most companies do it in my experience.

Just checked my renewal from Liberty and it says 6 years NCB (I have only been with them for a year). It also states how much of that I have built up with them. You need to keep an eye on this; years should not go missing from your NCB, and if the cert is not right then the insurer needs to correct it and issue a new cert.

You might find that it stops incrementing after a certain length of time though; its unlikely yours would say 13 years given that most insurers will only take a certain number of years into account (I think 6-7 is usually considered to a "full" NCB).
