    According to Citizens Information

''In 2014 the Department of Social Protection will pay BTSCFA automatically to many customers. This means that many families do not have to apply for the payment. If you qualify automatically for the Allowance you will get a letter telling you when and how your allowance will be paid. If you do not receive an automatic payment you must apply for the Allowance. Application forms are available from 9 June 2014.''

People have started to receive the letters this week but does anyone know how long you should wait for the letter before sending an application?

I'd say next week to make sure you have it in time for school, after all if you do receive a letter after applying there won't be any problems I'm sure they are used to that happening.
You will simply get it sooner than having to wait and they will know you got it and bin the application.

We got a letter about 2 weeks ago to say we were entitled to the payment automatically for 2 of the kids.

It also said the payment would be made the week ending 18th July.

And for the record, it also states that as of 2014, the payment will no longer extend to children in 3rd level education.

Hi I am entitled to the Back To School Allowance but haven't received a letter. Have all the letters gone out or do you think there is a delay in mine or should I fill in a form and send it in?

I recently lost my one parent family but will still be in receipt of benefits.

If you changed your social welfare payment you need to apply by post its only automatic if you have had no change of circumstance or payment. They received our form on the 27th and we just got our approval letter today :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,597 ✭✭✭Witchie

But I wasn't changed when the letters went out. I suppose though they knew it would be changing so thats why. No probs will get it sorted.

Best to ring up and check if you haven't received a letter I didn't get one and my circumstances haven't changed since last year. I sent off the form 2 weeks ago still hadn't received a text to say they got it so rang this morning and they said they weren't sure why I didn't get a letter but that I qualified automatically and payment due next week. also said they still haven't come across the form I sent in either.

Cheers Sassa. I rang them and they said coz I have moved from one scheme to another I didn't automatically qualify and need to fill in a form.

Anyone have to appeal? income hasn't changed and still on the same state benefit but advised over the income allowed.
looking at the gross income and the income they said we get looks like they did not take off the prsi and travel allowance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29 Fly38

They are processing applications received the 4th of July so refer back to when you sent the app in and you can get a idea when you should hear

Do you get the payment when you collect your normal sw payment at the post office, or do you get it automatically put into your bank account?
