Just saw on the Aldi website

Few handy bits and pieces like:

    Track Pump: €7.99
    Gloves: €4.99
    Baselayer: €5.99
    Tool Kit: €24.99
    GT85 Spray: €2.99
    Repair Stand: €34.99
    Helmet: €11.99
    Socks: €2.99

And something which might be of interest to some.st

Watch with GPS and HRM: €79.99, but at that price I reckon you're better off just trying to find a second hand edge.

Jesery's and Shorts on the UK website so too so wouldn't be surprised if they are in-store in Ireland as well.

Good cos Ive been holding off on a purchase until I see what the upcoming Aldi ones are like, been a bit sweaty last couple of evenings out there in my full lengths...

Actually now that I think of it if they're not on the website they probably wont show up on the day, Ill check the brochure in store later.

The spanners are no good if you want to use them on stuck pedals. Put apart from that, I have had no issues with the rest of it.

My wife bought me one in Aldi at Newlands cross last week for €9, it's grand. Would defo recommend if you don't want to spend a bomb on one.

Sports diret are offering 1:1 exchange on Euros for GBP at the minute if Aldi don't have them.

The FXA branded stuff is decent quality for the price.

Do they have pockets on the back?

I got a couple from Lidl/Aldi and there's only one zipped pocket at the side. It makes it a pain for carry stuff.

There's a large pouch on the back that's elasticated. Don't think there's a zip (I haven't looked, only wore it today for the first time)

There is in fact a zip pocket on the back too

What exactly is the spray - is it for chains or general bike maintenance

I got some of that in Halfords a couple of weeks ago. I went in for WD40 & the guy recommended that instead. I could be using it wrong but I used it on the chain, gears & where the pedals are connected to the bike. From the can it seems more for general maintenance than a specific purpose

I use it to displace water after washing my bike before using a wet lube to lube my chain, derailleurs, pedals, cables, etc.

Anyone know what the repair stands are like, are they sturdy? ie. won't fall over.

They're grand for most bikes. Mine struggled a bit with my gigantic steel mtb.

    Agreed.

Still, I picked up the short sleeve shirt for 9.49 during the week and wore it out this morning, no other tops/jackets etc.

I don't really have anything to compare it to but it was lovely. Really comfy.
I think I'll probably grab another one today as a lot of my gear is quite "dark" and I like the "bright" white and blue.

They probably still have some in Lidl @ 29.99 or less, as they have been out a few months. There were defo some in the Ballycullen, Dublin one.
I think most people here would say they are more than adequate.

I wonder what that €79 GPS watch is like.

Anyone tried the track stand? Worth a punt or pay the extra for something else?

I got the GPS bike computer a year ago. It's grand for tracking speed, distance altitude, calories etc. but it doesn't link up to things like strava etc without a lot of work on the extracted file. It is of little use for navigation as you would have to set so many way points it becomes soul destroying and if you do a different route every week you will never get the time to do the routes in advance. I would suspect this is very similar based on the description and specs.

Personally I would say take the €79 and use it as a kick start for saving towards treating yourself to a better one for Christmas.

I plan to get one for my rear wheel when turbo training in the winter. It would be nice to have some idea how I'm doing on the turbo but I Wouldn't get a more expensive one for that but for out on the road I would get a cateye or similar. I know lads in my group got the aldi or lidl ones and they tended to stop working after a while. I'm not sure they are the best constructed so bumpy irish roads and Irish weather seem to push them beyond their limit.

    Any shorts?

Just picked up the work stand. Very impressive piece of kit for only €35.
PS. Didn't see any shorts in the Castlebar shop

There were three bike stands in the Aldi store in Ashbourne if anyone is looking for them.

Looks (and is specced) very similar to the one i have from Lidl, which they're getting back in in their own offer this week. Lidl one is a couple of quid cheaper, and this time is in several colouredy options, woo-woo. Aldi one looks like it might have a clearer main readout (I'm assuming that's the one that always displays speed, as with the L one).

For me they do the job. They only have sensors for time, distance, and temp, and all the other "modes" are just a little bit of logic to derive other stuff from those. (Divide the one by the other, subtract the wet from the dry, multiple by some configurable value it has you enter in during setup._ But that's mostly what you need, right? (If you're wanting heartrate, lat, long & alt, cadence, etc, get saving for something about ten times the price. Or fifty times the price if you want a big hires display and maps and such) The Lidl one is reasonably configurable as regards what modes the secondary display flips between, though not completely so.

If you have a tenner and no bike computer, but think you might want one, get it (one or the other). Worst that it'll happen is that it'll fail (and I think there's some sort of guarantee period, or at least there's your "cooling off" refund for several weeks), or you decide you need a much fancier one. in the later case, use it on your other bike, give it to your little cousin, or tinker with it to use as a cadence monitor or some such!

Main downsides are that the mountings are a bit rubbish -- just cables ties -- and not bombproof with respect to wireless interference. But it's a whole better than an earlier Lidl one, that was a bundle of wireless nerves almost everywhere.

My customary Aldi has a "technical jersey" in the reduced section for a tenner, that just happens to be my size. Looks not bad, though I was hoping it was a fiver -- it was in a bin along marked "men's/ladies technical shirts", marked €4.99. My questions are: is it any good? And... exactly what is a "technical jacket", anyway? It had a long back, so my initial assumption was that it was cycling gear, but for all I know it might actually be for hillwalking or motorcycling (in which case it's likely very warm for most cycling applications). Can't find it via an online search -- there's a somewhat similar-looking thing here, but this one had a full-length zip, and was predominantly black.

If it's a tad longer at the back and has a couple of pouches/pockets at the back chances are it cycling..

Tad longer at the back, yes, but as I recall the pockets were small zipped ones in front. Hence my wondering maybe a motorbike thing?
