Traveller Fight Videos

I was at friend's house a few years back who showed me these videos on Youtube of traveler's asking other travelers for fights. They are loads of them now and they get quite a lot of views and in some they actually fight each other and get broken up.

In the videos the lads ask for or threaten to fight someone else. There are many threats of violence and even death made. I didn't know what to make of the videos (or my friend who gleefully put on more videos and thought they were hilarious).

I 100% think these videos need to be banned and need to be taken down off Youtube. It would be laughable if it wasn't so serious. My friend compared it to those segments from WWF were one wrestler said he'd beat up another wrestler at the next Wrestlemania. One person makes a video and then the other person makes a response to it, fueling the fights. The language and vitriol in the videos is sort of disturbing.

I don't understand how someone can make a video like that and threaten another person with violence and even death and it be ok to be on Youtube. Surely it's illegal or breaking some law? Is it not a crime to threaten someone?

What is also worrying is the image that it projects to the world, that Irish people are violent. I don't think Ireland is violent although of course on the weekends you get alcohol induced battles on most main streets sadly but there will always be people like that in every country.

If I was from the US or Canada or Europe I wouldn't really know the difference between the traveling and settled community. I'd just assume that that was another Irish person and that this kind of behaviour was the norm in Ireland. I wouldn't want anyone to think Irish people are violent because that will just be associated with ill-informed views of the Troubles and so on.

    TL;DR Version:

Joe these traveler fight videos are terrible, terrible Joe. And what does the government do Joe? Nothing. Nothing 'ah 'hall Joe. It's a disgrace.

So you thought that After Hours hasn't done this topic before?

In truth, yes. At least I haven't seen it come up. If it has been up a load of times and everybody is tired of it then a Mod is free to delete it.

Some of them did get in trouble over making the videos already and some of them were deleted since "a few years ago"

Yes, it is a crime, but usually crimes against the individual requires the assistance of the victim to press charges. In short, no victim, no crime.
There are some circumstances in which a private or state prosecution can be brought, but it means the bar is higher when you don't have a victim or witnesses.

The travelling community isolates itself by choice and by intimidation enforces a culture of non-compliance with state authorities. The case of Ken McElroy in the US illustrates perfectly the power of community collusion in committing crimes and getting away with them.

Travellers are brought up to believe that it is better to deal with crimes in the community than to allow state authorities to intervene. This includes serious crimes like rape and aggravated assault. Victims who choose to go outside of these rules and complain to the Gardai are subjected to harassment, intimidation, ostracisation, and sometimes even violence.

Very often these traveller fights are this "justice" process in action, the fight is to settle a grudge or a wrongdoing between families or individuals.

Any attempt by an authority to investigate these fights will very quickly result in stonewalling and silence from those involved.

But this Ireland, laws don't apply to travellers. Will you be asking them to pay income tax next?

They used to post them to each other on VHS, half of the videos online now are the old VHS converted to digital.

Of the few I've seen, it's tellietubbies in wifebeaters and Dunnes trackies who wouldn't fight sleep.

My day was ruined by google autocorrect changing "remake" to "remix". It was like it was saying "lol, nobody says remake anymore old man".
