    Folks
Need to give my bike some TLC before I get it ready for sale, I am a fair noob with this side of things, but as you can see there that piece is v rusty and needs changing.
Is there much work to it do you think?

Is there a place where I can see details of each part of a bike so that I can buy the right one . :o

That looks like just an ordinary rubber washer, if you took the headset off you'd be able to get at it and measure it up. You should be able to get them anywhere for cheap (i.e. a few cents)

It's unlikely to rust if it's rubber or plastic. Safe to assume it's metal.

It might be a compression ring, the bearing or race. Best bet to take it apart and see if it can be cleaned up sufficiently. If not get your LBS to order a compatible replacement.

Some advice on Sheldon Brown. Yours is a threadless 'ahead'.

Thanks folks, yes it is metal and I have the same rust on a metal ring/part at the base of the stem.

You will have to overhaul the headset, can't tell from your picture which headset is on your bike. Follow this and you'll have the pieces to have a proper look at!
