It's a somewhat odd ball model, not a very popular car.

Of that was a hatch it would be long gone. You need to wait for the right buyer. Get rid of the time to change bit.

As you have a service history detail it with mileage, garage and what was done. You have the info so include it.

I'd change the title to 2010 Volkswagen Golf Estate TDI Sportline - looks nicer, current title somehow would put me off.

    I know, odd :pac:

But rest of the ad seems ok.
Not much of a market in Ireland for estates, especially Golf Estates.

Price seems to be ok as well considering year and mileage.

    Pretty exclusive!

Unfortunately it's just the fact it's an estate. Golfs are very popular if was a hatchback you would have it sold 10 times over and for 2-3 k euro more. It seems well priced even considering its an estate. Hopefully someone who's looking for an estate will come along. They have there fans normally it's people with dogs who buy them or if they need a big boot.

    Is it 1.6 or 2.0?

Going by the splitter on the exhaust it's a 2.0.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    Aha. Ad says 1.6

    Jaysus, that's actually great value..

Has a 2.0 TDI badge on the back. Have you it advertised elsewhere? More exposure might help.

Hi op you say its 1.6 but has 2.0 badge on rear.
Also take 10 photos and in sun light if possible showing every angle.

Does it have 2keys- add this
Put photo with service book stamped and any receipts you have.

Put in all its extras that it has.

Put it up for €10950 looks bit better then 11.
Tax if any and nct. You may have these up but on phone.

I seen that too. But you can buy the badge for a few euro. Where as the exhaust on the 1.9tdi and 2.0 tdi has a splitter two exit pipes and one on the 1.6tdi.

Great car. Get a picture of the rear load space that shows the low tailgate lip up there. Sell that load space!

Unfortunately you're suffering from the fact that most Irish people just don't buy estate cars. Those that do buy estate cars generally do it because they need one and will want a longer wheelbase car with a larger load area. It's unfortunate but you've fallen between two stools here.

    Just checked

    Make VOLKSWAGEN
    Model GOLF
    Description 2.0 TDI SPORTLINE 140PS 5DR
    Engine Capacity (cc) 1968

Some amount of car for the money infairness if you were looking for an estate you wouldn't get near a hatchback with that engine for that money.

OP. Get that fixed. You're looking at a small enough buyer pool without putting people off with an error. It doesn't affect the sale prospects too much by having it down as a 2.0TDi.

I can't understand people buying hatchbacks as family cars when estates are so much more useful. I especially don't understand people buying saloons as family cars when there's an estate alternative. People spend too much time listening to the salesman's crap about resale value, etc instead of buying for practicality IMO.

Preaching to the converted here on Motors. Unfortunately for the OP estate sales are tiny here compared to the UK and continent and those who do buy estates tend to be buying BMW, Audi and Mercedes rather than other marques.

1.9 is a single exit on all bar the Passat. Doesn't even have an exit on some.

I'd definitely be getting 2.0 140 in the advert. It's a much better engine than what you're showing it as. The 105 brake engines in cars like that wouldn't pull you out of bed. Point out the difference.

It's a nice car, be patient. Looks well minded.

Like it's been said, take a photo of the boot space with the tail gate down.

Someone interested in that car will be looking for some practical and spacious. Sell your cars strength.

Throw in a photo of your service book with all the stamps and stuff shown.

Personally i'd be far more interested in that then a bog standard 1.6 hatch everyone in this country seems to think is the greatest thing ever.

When you do get interest, it should be serious interest. Good luck.

Its a really lovely looking car, and has a great spec and a super engine. The only problem is that the Golf Estate was not sold new here, and as such people looking for estates won't ever search 'Golf Estate'. I would disagree with other comments that folks looking for estates are looking only for longer wheelbase cars - the lifestyle estates like the 3 series touring, A4 Avant and V60's and the Golfs Cousin Octavia Combi are selling second for a real premium over the saloons & make real sense to buy. I can't understand why VW didn't market that car here as Im sure it would have sold well

In this case Id try advertising it on the autostat.ie and vagdrivers.net where you will find folks that this car will appeal to. i would not take less than 11k for it, assuming it hasn't been crashed and badly repaired etc, it looks cheap at that price

Definitely 2 exit on the mk2 octavia 1.9 tdi pre facelift. You may be right about mk5 golf actually think that could be single. On the mk6 though fairly sure all the 2.0 tdi 110 and 140 bhp were 2 exit while 1.6tdi was single. Anyway at least the op has the 140 bhp which surly makes it a more sellable car.

You're right, the mark 2 octy has two!

Either way that car seems like a bargain for what you're getting. I wouldn't drop the price again.

Definitely priced right op just needs to wait for the right buyer.

Looking at it mark it as a highline with sport pack.

It may have been sport spec in the UK but closest here is different.

One slightly annoying thing about the pics is you've no side shot of the car.
I don't recall seeing one of these before so hard to get a feel for how it looks without a side shot. The alloys look nice too but can't really see them clearly as you would from the side.

Also would expect to see a pic with the tail open as it's a key factor in buying an estate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 813 ✭✭✭Satanta

I'd get the discrepancies fixed ASAP. 1.6 in the ad with a 2.0 actual engine size would be enough for me to look to the next motor tbh.

I'd also drop the "full UK service history" and replace with "full service history". That was another thing that bugged me. I dont mind a UK car, it's all I have driven until my curent car, but looking at the dials they are in km/hr. That raised my eyebrow a bit also. Anyway, stick up a pic of the stamped service book. If you have some receipts add them in the pic too.

Maybe add that you'll throw in a cartell.ie report.

Take some pics up the side of the car to show lack of dings. They are rarely picked up in the photo anyway and half the battle is getting someone into the street to look at it. If it's straight and honest she'll sell then.

The estate is definitely a niche market here unfortunately too.

I may be nitpicking but I think you should get a valet done on the interior.
The front seats look a bit grubby, drivers mat looks worn and the pedals could do with a scrub.
    The car looks great otherwise.

    Thanks guys,

I will resolve most of those issues in next day or so.

Even fixing what I have fixed has increased the hits hugely.

    Thanks

They're a good car but incredibly rare here. A friend used to own one and was very happy with it.

Also that reg is very high. How long have you actually had the car.

Changing a newish car like that after a short space of time would put me off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

The last Golf estate they officially sold here was the MkIV. Oddly enough people don't seem to like them yet the Octavia estate which is pretty much the same car underneath sells in sufficient numbers.

UK import registration regs in Dublin used to start at 120,000 by convention and not the normal number system. I think they may have changed that now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,286 ✭✭✭Stoolbend

I know that. But that reg still looks like it was imported less than a year ago.

You can get the NCT done 6 months before it's due, that would be a good selling point.

My bad. The fact that there are no km/hr markings threw me. UK cars normally come with both.

I see what you mean now. I've been away so I've no idea how high the import rates have been recently.

Why buy an estate eh ? .. Well I have and its a Saab 95 2.2 TiD. Its just superb - Really really practical. It will take 5 bicycles with the wheels off across the way in the back and still take 5 adults with gear...! I helped a friend move flat - one run with the seats down.

Thats a lot of car for the price.. At least its not a horrible povvo Irish spec.. Push all the extras !

We as a nation just follow the crowd and wont think outside the box.. If I had 10k + to buy a car Id have your arm off for that one.

A buyer of that sort of car dosent know he wants it until he sees it .. so a few more sites and even local small adds might help !

Someone is going to be a happy bunny when they realise what they bought !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,412 ✭✭✭toadfly

I'd love an estate, so handy for the dogs. Maybe advertise it at local dog events or vets. If we ever have kids the ideal car would be an estate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,407 ✭✭✭✭justsomebloke

OP you need a picture of the boot. As this is a rare car and most people would only be considering it due to it's boot space you will need to show what it looks like

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 222 ✭✭coyle21

I had 2 Audi A4 tdi estates and had no problem selling them at all.....But different car i suppose

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,712 ✭✭✭✭R.O.R

I'm sure I've seen that Golf on the M50 - Northbound in the evening's - unless there's more than one Golf estate around.

Don't think it's been here too long - remember it with the UK plates for a couple of weeks before the Irish plates went on.

No idea why VW didn't sell the Golf Estate here - lost a lot of sales to the Octavia Combi because of it.

OP - is there anyway to remove the bodystyle from advert? Might not appear in people's searches as an estate.

Should definitely sell at that price - that's a lot of motor for that money.

Worth a go definitely - but ime - most of them use car vans or commercial 4 x 4s.

They often you see - have cabinets retrofitted (with Landcruisers anyway) which would be harder to do on an Estate - but makes things nice and tidy for the vet looking to get bits and pieces they need.

Obviously been someone with legitimate business uses for a commercial means they don't have issue with taxing as commercials ;)

Im amazed someone somewhere hasn't seen fit to consider it
