Thinking of moving so I'm getting work references written up, it's the estate agents reference I am questioning. They say to just give their number and they'll provide the reference over the phone, is that normal practice? Before I haven't used estate agents so there would be a piece in writing too.

My current landlord's agent had no problem with a phone reference from my previous landlord, if that's any help.
