Limerick farmer David Thompson was charged €1,700 after someone in his area reported a fire on his farm, despite the fact that it represented no threat to persons or property.

This bonfire night is news to me, whats the significance of 23rd June?

Its not something that's done around our place (Cork)

St John's night...some pagan festival to do with mid summer before that, the Cork city fire brigade have their work cut out for them every year. Doesn't seem to happen much beyond the city bounds.

Ha should also add that it doesn't seem to happen outside of 'certain' areas in cork city itself.

Back in the 70's 80's we always had a bonfire on the 23rd of June in North Cork.
