Welger Netting Problem

Hi all, I'm pulling my hair out now, having spent most of the weekend trying to bale a few hundred bales I'm seeking your advise. My problem relates to my Welger RP 200 netting system.

When the chamber is full the buzzer sounds and I engage the netting via the control box, after the required time the "cutting bar" snaps shut, however 60-70% of the time the netting fails to be cut and it continues to get pulled into the bale.

Each time this happens I have to stop the machine, manually cut the net and reset the net. its driving me mad, I have checked the net and the "cutting bar" and see no obvious issues. The cutting bar is in good condition without damage and the spring mechanism appears to be in good nick.

Anyone ever came across this before? Also I have tried a number of different netting types so its not the net.

    Thanks

The knife is your problem, but it could be one of a few things, firstly is it clean and sharp? And it needs to be sharp sharp, i think most of them had 2 edges to them so may be worth turning it over.

The spring may seem tight but it is possibly starting to weaken off as it gets to the very end and not pulling hard enough, if there's any adjustment id try give it a bit of a tighten.

If nothing else works it may be worth while getting a new knife, i dont think there big money, either way a phone call to deerings in nurney will let you know, and they would have any other ideas to try out to

Many thanks for the swift reply, I think Ill remove the knife and give it a sharpen, failing that its off to Nurney!!

    Thanks again

Another thing with welgers is the resetting of the knife. I had a 220 before and had your problem till i discovered that you have to keep the lever pressed for a few seconds longer after you hear the door slam shut. Basically theres a ram that needs to go down out of the way and it only happens after the door is shut, not sure if its the same in a 200 but do you hear a loud clang when the knife fires? If not then this might be your problem.

Seems strange on a welger? Doors are only single acting, any time I've been on it I've just put lever in float and left it there until buzzer went off to open door again, possibly use to knock it back to nuetral after a few seconds when id be heading up along the stroke but not 100%.

But you did make me think of one other thing, make sure your opening the door up to the very end of the ram, it's only when the door gets opened fully that the knife gets reset. If your not quite reaching the top it may not be going back far enough to slam in hard enough if you get me. Have often got caught out wondering why bale wont net then realise i didnt open the door enough on last bale :(

exact same problem with a McHale, drive ya crackers to hear the knife drop but she just keep takng net , drop of oil on the bushings of the knife , problem solved .
The knife was getting a little stiff ,not enough to stop it dropping but enough to stop it cutting the net clean. May or may not be help to ya.

You might also want to check the disk brake just to the left of the roll of net if it isn't tensioning the net enough the net knife won't cut it (even if it is sharp) and the net will run on. Had this problem on Sunday with my rp220 and by adjusting the brake seems to have fixed it hopefully it helps you.
