Two people jailed in the uk for putting bacon in a mosque. Disrespectful yes, but how I dont understand how they can be jailed for this.

Was the bacon alive when it went in ?

Sounds like a ham fisted prosecution to be honest!

Reminds me of the time I put black pudding on a statue of the virgin Mary.

It's more than disrespect, it's incitement to hatred, plus trespass and probably criminal damage if you were being pedantic. Plus let's face it, the pictures in that link don't exactly show a pair of angels.

I'm more interested how your woman can plead not guilty despite the fact that her co-accused was willing to admit he did it. I'm sure the jury was out for weeks on that one

Odd that the muslims didn't have a sense of humour about the situation

Excessive punishment there, you'd get less for more serious offences.

    Not comparable.

If they did it to a synagogue I imagine they'd be in the same situation.

Incitement to hatred? Was their intention to rally people against Muslims by doing it?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 5,575 ✭✭✭AlanS181824

I don't think there would've been half as much commotion if this had happened in a Church or Synagogue.

Seems to always be Muslim people that get very offended by this,

But by no means do I want to generalise them all.

But from not touching alcohol/pork if they serve you in Tesco to forcing SubWay to remove bacon from their menus, it's always seems to be Muslim people making a big deal out of very little.

    I find this absolutely ridiculous.

*Hopefully I didn't offend anyway and by no means did I intend to

I've had a shag in a church once.

*Note I was above the legal age of consent as was the other consenting participant and no members of religious orders were involved*

One things for sure, you won't get two gob****es doing it again.

Harsh and it's a pity they don't apply this punishment to more serious crimes.

Laughing at your one pleading not guilty despite the following being found on her Blackberry:
Messages sent on 31 January included: "Going to invade a mosque, because we can go where we want."

A text to the phone asked: "What you do last night?" The reply was: "Went to the mosque in Edinburgh and wrapped bacon round the door handles, opened the door and threw it in ha ha ha."

Google searches on the phone were for the location of the mosque, addresses for taxis and "Edinburgh mosque bacon search".

There looks like a bit of myra hindley in that blond one. The other guy looks whacked on drugs. I find it astonishing that these two useless people even had the intelligence to even understand what bacon is, or even where it comes from, never minding the religious rejection of such meat.

I don't see the problem; they wanted a reaction, and they got a reaction.

So the right on line of thinking is, Pussy Riot get jailed for invading a ongoing church service its outrage and something must be done, these two idiots get jailed for desecrating but not damaging a mosque and its fair play ?

These miscreants identify themselves as being members of the Scottish Defense League, an unsavoury group to say the least.

Poor reporting from the BBC, not even saying what they were charged with, presumably breach of the peace?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,766 ✭✭✭Bongalongherb

Bacon/rashers are gone to the dogs now, you cook the things and they are half white. They were damn tasty in their time way back, especially the smoked rashers, but they changed for the worse. Folk have nothing else to do with these crap rashers they just play with them and they don't understand the meaning of them... so hang them out of things through boredom and idiocy.

Cured rashers made them turn white

There's a very protracted difference between serving pork in a restaurant intended for use by the vast majority of the population who will happily eat it, and going out of your way to place bacon in a mosque, generally reserved specifically for those of that religious persuasion.

It would be more comparable Subway standing in the street, hassling vegetarians to come into the shop and be force-fed meat.

Sorry, my bad. Thought that a thread about a racist crime should probably contain a little discussion of racist crime. Clearly we should have been discussing the evolution of fine china in the late 19th century instead.

    Won't happen again.

Of course they shoudln't. People are entitled to their belief and their own place to have it in but that's just pathetic.

That's not to say super mosques should be allowed or that people should be able to mount stupid, pointless, extremist protests like the one in that link. Taking things to that level should be equally illegal.

If you're going to immigrate to a country, be prepared to abide by their standards, principles and values. If I went to Dubai and got publicly drunk I'd do a couple of years in prison.

Mm so two different cases in two different countries, and you're wondering why they are different.?

Or why they have anything to do with all.?
