Irish customs laws on counterfeit goods

I have read that in the UK it is not illegal to import a counterfeit product, but it is illegal to sell them. Is the same true for Ireland?
I am thinking of purchasing a Chinese replica (i.e. fake) guitar, but my only concern is if it will get through customs. I have no intention of selling it. Has anyone had any experience?
