First time commercial insurance, mad quotes

Hi all, for the last year and a bit i've been privately driving an Audi TDI 115 bhp on a provisional. I'm 22 and have a provisional. I have 2 years no claims and my insurance premium is €1200.

Thisevening I bought a van as i'm a self employed, registered musician and wanted commercial tax. I had to jump on the van as the deal was too good. It was a 02 golf tdi with the same engine as my Audi.

But the only quotes I can dig up are close to €4500.

Why is this? I'd be carrying quite low value gear and no passengers.

Anyone know any cheaper insurers than the mainstream?

    Thanks.

Well the likes of fbd will insure them vans under a private policy as they consider them cars I know it doesn't make sense but that's there logic.
If your looking for commercial insurance everyone seems to be with allianz there one of the main ones for commerical insurance on vans.
So I'd start there depending on which route your talking. Other then them try a broker or just ring as many as possible to get a decent quote.

Quote killer....musician...driving late after gigs. Late hours etc all considered high risk.

Yeah. As has been said, it's the musician part that's making the quotes mental. Good luck with it dude.

Provisional and your profession cause problems, do you do anything else commercially that might be a better choice to say ?

If he is a musician, that is what he has to declare to insurer. The question will will be full or part-time occupations

You dont have a drivers license which probably isnt helping matters. Sort that out and see if the quotes are more realistic.

Just insure it privately and add business use.

22, no licence , musician in a commercial , I'm surprised anybody offered you cover at all .
I thought there was supposed to be a big crack down on unaccompanied learners by the guards a couple go years ago ?
Has that all been quietly forgotten ?
Sell your van or park it up,
Pass your driving test , use mates/taxis until then .

Like many motoring laws, they made a big song and dance about it for a few weeks and then got bored. Even when cases of unaccompanied learners fall into their lap they dont bother prosecuting half the time. Pathetic stuff really.

Yeah because that's practical for someone to go about their business on a daily basis.

Yeah because that's practical for someone to go about their business on a daily basis.

It's an incentive to pass the test. We're the only country that I know of that lets unlicensed drivers out unaccompanied, it's quite simple if you want to drive on your own you need a pink piece of plastic or get a tractor. It most other countries it's a serious offence, like here, but they actually enforce it, unlike here.

Yeah because that's practical for someone to go about their business on a daily basis.

Totally irrelevant. It is not anybody's right to use the public highway illegally

But this is Ireland, where we have a god given right to drive as we wish after passing a 40 question multiple choice exam, and god help anyone who challenges that right...

But only if you are "a better driver" than 99% of older people who passed their test years ago and should be put off the road

Try ARB Brassington for a policy

Yeah because that's practical for someone to go about their business on a daily basis.

Pathetic excuse . I was living in England and passed my test before driving on my own , the same as most people in most countries . Do you think there should be an exemption for musicians ???
