    Hi

Can anyone recommend an Insurance company that provides car insurance cover for big engine cars. I have a 6 litre, no convictions & 9 years no claims. The last company I was with have moved out of Ireland. Got one quite so far of €1700, far cry from the €600 I paid last year.

Depends on the car, plent of 2 litre cars are much more expensive than 4 litre cars, it's all about the risk and claims history of the model.

Well AXA won't insure me until I'm 30, 2 years to go

Youll get the same response from a lot of places Id imagine. Last year I found a lot more places were willing to quote me on my Type R after I had turned 30.

Try britton's insurance, they were one of the few companies to give me competitive quotes on an m5 (but then the were quoting a similar premium to me on a superb. Go figure...)

Nothing near your engine size, but in the past I've insured a 3.2 porsche and now a 2.7 SUV through AAireland. They were always much cheaper than nearest competitor. I'm over 30 though, EU (not Irl) licence, 8+ years NCD, generally pay around €500 full comp.

I was with Brittons, only paid €600 last year, that underwriter has pulled out of Ireland unfortunately. So far most places won't insure me, did get a quote of €600 for my boyfriend but then I'm not on the policy, it's cat, was over 25 there for a while, now 30

    Try allianz.
    And a broker called Arachas.

They have been insuring mine for the last few years. 2.5 / 4.2

Once you're into the territory of anything fast/unusual/loaded you should talk to a decent broker and see what they can come back with. This might either open up options you wouldn't have heard about or allow you to bypass some restrictions that many insurers impose through their direct sales.

    Yeah I'd totally agree.
Arachas were very helpful for me.

Do you mind me asking, are you under 30?? Age seems to be my problem!

Age is one of the direct sales restrictions that a broker may be able to bypass for you.

Your about right, they won't insure me at AA on it because I'm only 28, they will insure my boyfriend coz he's 34 and it's costing €628, it isn't bad but they won't even allow me on as a named driver, if worst comes to worse I'll have to just let him insure it, it's only really a Summer/Spring car so it's not too bad

Have you tried First Ireland? I tried to insure my Rx8 with them as a second car and they were the lowest quote I got, by well below a grand! Even my own insurance company couldn't match them with it as my primary car!

However I didn't go with them as I hadn't money available at the time :(

Someone actually has a Monaro, in Ireland?

I don't think I'm the only one, I think someone in Castlebar has one too, might be a ute! I love my Vauxhalls so what's better than a Monaro VXR :-) !!! Well I suppose if it was a 500 that would be better!! Can't find a picture now but I'll try posting one later, it's red, 5.7 model so it doesn't have the bonnet vents (yet) and it's standard (so far)!!

There's a thread to post pictures of your car, it'd go down a treat.
