French Air Traffic Controllers Strike 24-29/6/14

Strike was a threat but 2 unions voted for it this afternoon. Tuesday 24/6/14 to Sunday 29/6/14.

I had a link, but was not allowed to post it, so please look it up online for yourselves.

I phoned Aer Lingus, but they claimed that it was news to them, change your flight if you want, at your own expense, fair enough, I know it is not their fault.

The reason I found out about this is because I was checking the latest on the ongoing French Rail Strike.

I don't know what will happen, but the rail strike has unnerved me (and my wallet) a bit.

Air France are asking people to change travel plans if possible and are offering options.
(Sorry but you will have to copy and paste)

    airfrance.fr/FR/en/local/information/news/news-air-traffic-air-france.htm

We inform you of the strike announced in this main departure period by several unions of French air traffic controllers from Tuesday June,24 to Sunday June 29, 2014.

We plan to ensure our program of long-haul flights, but we won't be able to communicate the adaptations of our short and medium-haul before Monday June, 23 after receipt of instructions to all airlines by the Directorate General for Civil Aviation.

We are doing all we can to inform you and to minimize any inconvenience you may encounter. To be notified personally, we invite you to update your contact information (phone and / or e-mail) in your reservation file on our website.

Nevertheless, without waiting, we propose you to anticipate or postpone your departure to avoid the period from 24 to 29 June 2014 if you have the opportunity.

So, if you are in possession of an Air France ticket valid for travel to or from a French airport, for a trip planned between June 24 and 29, 2014, on a short and medium-haul flight, we offer the following commercial options:

    - You can change your reservation in the same class of travel free of charge for another flight as of now, Friday Jun20 and until Monday, June23, 2014 included or from June30 to July09, 2014 included.

You can make these changes of your reservation on this website, under the section "Review/Modify your reservations" or on our mobile site in the heading "Manage my flights".

Aer Lingus are still selling seats to and from French airports for the strike days.

The French Rail Strike is ongoing although there is an increase in the number of trains running.

http://dsnado.canalblog.com/ This should be the official source of information once things become clear, hopefully they will also have something in English.
We are due to go there on Wednesday, so watching with keen interest.

They fly down to the West of France thereby avoiding French airspace, just like they have done previously.

Hope you're right but I think flights into the barcelona area do cross french airspace over biscay and down the french side of the pyraneese

It will depend on the airline, the aircraft and the crew. If all are qualified they can route further west in the North Atlantic airspace, otherwise it's over Framce.

Ryanair just published their list of cancellations. Doesnt seem to be any canceled flights to/from Ireland. Although I'm sure delays are going to be inevitable.

I thought that in situations like this, Ryanair just advised you to contact your insurance company as it isn't Ryanair's fault.
I'm flying an aircraft into Paris LeBourget today, we are supposed to leave at 07:45, but the airport cannot advise us if they airport will be actually open until they see how many staff show up at 07:00.... It's a right PITA.

he strike will end at 10h00 UTC on the 26th. The union asked ATCOs to go back on work. This will be done progressively. The situation on airports and in Reims, Paris and Bordeaux ACC will be normal.
Some capacity restrictions will be implemented by Brest ACC, and improvements up to normal capacity is expected during the morning.

In Marseille ACC, the recovery to normal situation will take more time.
